Possible baby abuse victim

In Malacca police are investigating a case where a baby has been warded at the Malacca Hospital for a fractured skull. It is believed that the baby may be an abuse victim

The mother of the girl, Chong Gaik Ling, 28, who sent the baby to the hospital at 5pm on Dec 6 could not be traced at the address she provided.

At this present juncture, we don’t know the past and present of this baby. But no baby or for that matter any body: deserves to be abused. Every child deserves the right to be loved, fed, sheltered, educated and cared for by loving parents.

This mother cared enough to bring the baby to the hospital. This to me after the recent ‘three kids poisoned to death’ tragedy brings back echoes of their mother Kau Mei Lin calling the police in a last ditch attempt to save her children.

Did she abuse the the five month old baby? Did someone else abuse the child? No matter what, she did the right thing by bringing the child to hospital. Now if it is proved that the baby is indeed abused, I propose the parents or guardians be given proper counseling and to face any necessary legal action. Only after all parties involved are absolutely sure that the welfare of the baby will be well taken care of, should the baby be returned to its previous environment where she was abused.

We owe that to the baby. The baby is too young to express her needs well. We have to speak on her behalf.
