Deputy speaker : Matter is not urgent.
The Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday rejected a motion “to debate the interference of the executive in the judiciary in directing the Attorney-General to determine the religious status of the late Anthony Rayappan.”
Earlier, Salahuddin Ayub (PAS-Kubang Kerian) had tabled the matter to be discussed as it was specific in nature and of public importance.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Lim Si Cheng replied that it was not urgent as the government had already dealt with the matter at hand.
Salahuddin had questioned how the prime minister, could order the attorney-general to intervene in determining the religious status of Rayappan when the adjudication process was going on at the High Court and the Syariah Appeals Court.
He also questioned whether the move by the prime minister would undermine the Syariah Court’s credibility and integrity, which is protected by Article 121(A) of the Federal Constitution.
