No more outgoing calls for unregistered prepaid users
Until midnight yesterday, mobile services provider centers here were packed to the brim with customers rushing to register their prepaid lines before the scheduled deadline, which ended at midnight yesterday.
Those who have not registered had their lines barred from today. They cannot send SMSes, make outgoing calls or access the wireless Internet service, but they can receive incoming calls. 30th December is the deadline to register. After that the lines will be terminated. All remaining credit and loyalty rewards points will be forfeited and the existing cell phone numbers will be taken away from them.
Maxis Communications Berhad corporate affairs manager Catherine Leong said yesterday all their officers were rushing to cope with the overload of prepaid users. “This is the government’s directive and we should all abide by it,” she said.
Leong added that all Maxis centres and authorized dealers nationwide would be open until midnight for registration until Dec 19, while from Dec 20 to Dec 29 the centers will extend their services till 8pm.
“Registration also continues to be available in Pos Malaysia offices, selected Shell and Petronas stations, Maxis dealers, and also via the online banking portals of CIMBClicks and maybank2U.com,†she said.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) corporate communications head Adelina Iskandar said only about 10% of prepaid users have yet to register.
The registration is for monitoring purposes and also to identify unscrupulous users. This is a good move to remove a channel for unscrupulous users to use prepaid cell phones for illegal purposes. It is just a one-time-registration-exercise. Users will just have to be patient and comply with this directive.
i want to get a prepaid when i go to malaysia end of the month so do i also need to register when i buy it? how does it work?

only lines tat r registered can be used…existing lines prepaid that is cannot make outgoing calls..n after end of the mth..obsolete
Whew! I got mine registered few months back.
But, the phone company’s gimmick to encourage those late to register with hope of winning a price and all… is just not fair to those who had dutifully follow the directive and registered early - why don’t they get a chance to be reward for this pulak.
So, if this is the case, maybe next time it’s best to wait till the very last minute. Ahahaa… ada untung mah
