It was a simple modus operandi. Import sex paraphernalia and fake sexual enhancement pills: generic versions of certain drugs e.g. Viagra, Cialis, Livitra and Caverta 100, repackage them as well-known brands and sell them off at premium prices. Sex toys were also imported from China.

A generic drug is a copy that is the same as a brand-name drug in dosage, safety, strength, how it is taken, quality, performance and intended use. They are just as safe, take the same time to work in the body and made in equally modern facilities. Generic drugs have to go through the US-FDA just like the well-known brands.

I have been taking generic cholesterol pills. It works with no side effects. Thailand is working on generic HIV pills to make it more affordable by its people. Well known brands are made by companies in the industrialized world and they charge us first-world prices. Popular and generic pills share an active ingredient. However to repackage and sell them off as the popular brands is a rip-off.

The pharmaceutical industry is a lucrative one. Individuals and corporations find the standards set by the western world in relation to development of new drugs an effective barrier against local companies which want to market new pharmaceuticals.

Our country is rich in potentially valuable resources for its pharmaceutical industry. The government should tap into the world market. There have been reported cases of dedicated individuals claiming the benefits of rodent ginger for example and the supposed healing aid for HIV as found in the Bintangor tree. Research costs huge amounts of money.

The government should allocate an adequate sum of money for research to be conducted effectively. Hire talented young people, not people who are jaded by cynicism, and not utilize people from other departments who are just doing it part-time. Try to imitate the standards set-up by other MNC’s. If successful, the results would be awesome.
