Sibu food hawker prices

Although it has been drizzling the whole day, any fears there will be a flood has long evaporated. The drains are low and the chances are minimal.

Tonight is new year’s eve. When there is a kid involved it is difficult to arrange a sitter so we have to turn down any late night-functions.

Benghui suggested we go to Sugar Bun instead for he loves fried chicken. On arrival there we found no parking space because many people had gathered near the town square presumably to celebrate the countdown later.

So I drove around and we finally stopped at a coffee-shop near the outstation bus terminal. All buses leaving Sibu and coming from outside Sibu use this terminal. The name of the coffee shop is Yum-Yum Coffee Shop. Nothing grand, nothing fancy. Just a place where people eat and then leave :) The place was very clean when we were there. If the coffee-shop was air-conditioned, the prices would have been different.

We had the following for dinner. We shared it and felt very full. Perhaps it is because by nature we don’t eat much anyway. We also use minimal oil while cooking, so outside food which uses more oil makes us feel full very quickly.

Anyway this is what we had.
fish and chips
Fish and chips : RM5.00

DSCN0191
Japanese Teriyaki Seafood : RM4.00

dry hand made noodles
Hand made noodles without soup with herbs and anchovies and I presume minced beef : RM3.00

foochow ban zhen soup or 8 herbs soup
Foochow Ban Zhen Soup or 8 herbs soup & 2 pieces of chicken and 1 hard-boiled egg : RM3.50

I will teach you all how to cook this soup one of these days. It is a regular dish for the family. It is also very nutritious.

Drinks : RM2.40 ( 1 milo and 2 Chinese Tea )

Grand total : RM17.90 for 2 adults and a child…for a new-year celebratory dinner and we had quality family time together. And the wonderful thing : no dishes to wash and no kitchen to clear up :)

Parking : We parked right in front of the coffee-shop.

Oh my! I do sound cheap-skate but we can’t eat in 4-star, 5- star restaurants all the time but eating out is sometimes convenient and saves so much time when it is only a small family.

How is that compared to the prices in other towns or other countries?

Happy New year Everybody !

Yeah, with RM17.90 you can eat 10 plates of kampua…LOL! JK! Anyway, u can eat variety of different dishes with RM17.90 in Sibu. Other places like West Msia u can hardly satisfy your stomach with anything at all. Haha!
