Are we Malaysians putting on airs?

I only got to know Anthony through my blog not so long ago. He is an articulate man, very straight-forward, hard-hitting blogger. His views are his views and he doesn’t feel the need to conform so his views always give me food for thought.

Please read what Anthony has to say about Malaysian dietary habits

It is not uncommon to hear of Malaysians paying huge sums of money to eat a certain dish or travel long distances in search of the perfect, original flavor. Very often, these same ingredients are bathed in condiments that hide the original smell and flavour.

I remember once travelling to Sitiawan to eat kongpia, Tanjung Malim to eat chi kek mien and Seremban 2 to frequent a certain shop which is supposed to be the best wantan mien restaurant in Malaysia.

But Anthony’s article is different. It refers to status, symbols, illusions , image and self esteem.

In the past, Romans too used to grind pearls and mix gold powder into their food to make it more luxurious, more costly and because it cost more..better for the health.

Many of my readers seem to love the topic of food. Feel free to comment on Anthony’s views.

I was in a shopping complex today to buy school uniforms and school shoes. I dropped Miss Calm and Collected to pay a parking bill while I went to look for a parking space. She looked for us afterwards. I shouted to attract her attention but she didn’t seem to hear. The minute “Mummy,” sounded, she immediately looked over and her face lit up. Read more »

Cooking for the novice cook

“Daddy, I am hungry. Mummy has gone out,” Benghui said. What is any decent father to do except to prepare some food. Miss Cool, Calm and Collected has not been so cool since her university transcripts went missing: supposedly someone had taken it for her and neglected to inform her. Hence she was flustered and rushed out to look for it. Read more »

Time to look ahead and recover for the flood victims in Malaysia…

Situation almost back to normal
Kota Tinggi electricity restored

The next few days residents in the flood-affected districts will find their hands full trying to revert to the status quo prior to the floods. Ruined furniture, mattresses, foodstuff etc have to discarded. ‘Cleaning-up’ has to be carried out. Government staff will be busy for the next month at least trying to get at least some semblance of order back into the streets. Read more »

Christmas at an Iban longhouse in Sarawak is very different from Christmas at Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Yours truly here had a wonderful time, although it rained on the eve and on Christmas day.

I was invited along to a Christmas day evening concert. There were many items but yours truly bungled up with the photography so I have only the pic of the choir. Don’t they look lovely? I found out they took a long time to prepare for the item but they sang like angels :) .
