Sibu Chinese Birthday Finger Food at Home Café

Birthdays are always a grand occasion for the Chinese. On this particular occasion, we celebrated at Home Café, somewhere opposite the Sibu Municipal Library. It is simple food but nevertheless very filling. We must have ordered at least 15 types of dishes. Needless to say, much was left over. The food was fresh, the prices were moderately priced rather than cheap but it was worth it.

The following are pics I took on the occasion and the highlights from the food served.

Sibu Foochow Chinese 8 medicinal herb chicken soup ( Pak Tin Ke Th’ng )

This soup is a staple in most Sibu Foochow families. At almost all occasions we can find this soup. A matriarch once pointed out her whole brood of strong young sons and beautiful daughters and said it all came from this soup. Now, we cannot expect the FDA ( Federal Drug Authority of the US ) to verify this claim but suffice to say, there are many who vouch for its goodness. Read more »

Sibu people have hearts of gold and donate generously

Sibu food donations

I have wanting to write about this unique feature of Sibu for some time but I kept putting it off. So, when this article was posted in the Borneo Post, I just had to put it on the blog.

The Borneo Post doesn’t have this link although I searched for it. I could have made a mistake or perhaps they are selective as to posts they put online…the more important ones possibly but do visit it sometimes to catch up on what’s happening here. Read more »

Imagine for a moment Wuching, Bernard, Ryan or me calling our better halves…child machines huh! I can imagine the stunned silence and frosty glares we will get. Try it on 5x mum and wait for her condemnation on her blogs hahah… Obviously bloggers just as the rest of the world, it is not the politically correct thing to do. Read more »
