The Alliance of Native Customary Rights Land Owners of Sarawak sends protest letter on action over Rumah Nyawin

Bintulu Land and Survey Superintendent Rozlan Putit has gone on the front page of local daily, The Borneo Post, to explain his department’s stand on the demolishing of Rumah Nyawin. He has taken great lengths to explain the government’s stand on it.

However many parties are still far from being convinced. The latest to shoot off a salvo is The Alliance of Native Customary Rights Land Owners of Sarawak ( Tahabas ).

They wrote a formal letter dated Jan 4, 2007 addressed to Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. Copies were also sent to all the main political figures in the state.

They questioned the action taken against the longhouse folk when the case had been brought to the Bintulu High Court and it had not even been mentioned yet. They are of the stand that the Rumah Nyawin land used to belong to the Penans of Kampong Yoh and not to the government as alleged by Bintulu Land and Survey Superintendent Rozlan Putit.
