Boy hangs himself because of RM4.50

It is a sad story and I have been mulling over it. Today I read an interview with his brother and I felt more ready to post this article.
This boy’s hanging brings to shame society. Many of us are so used to seeing poverty, we become immune to it. We do not help others when we should.
In the case of this boy, he hanged himself because he couldn’t get RM4.50 he needed to pay his teacher. It was for some sports fees and insurance. He asked for the money from his mum but she had none to give him.
RM4.50 is so little but it cost a life. The mother is a cleaning woman earning RM300.00 a month of which RM100 a month goes to the rent. She has four other children.
Since the tragedy, many questions have been asked. How is it that this family could have lived in such poverty and no help was offered. It is noted here that the family had appealed for help before.
Yesterday, another girl from Sarawak tried to commit suicide because she claimed her students’ affairs senior assistant refused her application to stay in the school hostel. Of course , I understand the parents anger and backlash through the newspapers, but what concerns me here is school kids may copy-cat this suicide bid.
Suicide should never be considered. In the meantime, parents please be more aware of your children’s needs and wants.

maybe this is something the ‘luckier’ of us should take a lesson to also. where a kid in sarawak cannot even get rm4.50 to go to school, here we are lucky enough to have degrees and all but not put it to good use and contribute back to the society. sometimes, when we cannot depend on the government to hand out help, it is the people that should help each other.
OMG!!! Why so many suicide stories these few days??? Last week my university, UUM was shocked by a suicide case here where a final year student died. (Read my blog for the news)
Then 5xmom commented on that post that her husband’s niece committed suicide in UPM. All involved students. What happened to the society nowadays??? When does suicide becoming a trend?? This is scary man!
