Blown-away baby in critical condition

It happened so suddenly 5 month-old Cathrina Peter’s mother could do nothing. They were at the construction site of a private college in Jalan Lanang on Sunday. Catherine was hung on a cot attached to the roof when the roof was blown off by a strong wind. Her father, Peter Ringgan was sleeping while her mother was folding clothes.

9 units of workers’ quarters were damaged. Jiro Mis, a co worker picked up the baby 100ft away from the bewildered parents. She was under the roof.

The hospital staff upon examining her, warded her immediately. She was bleeding from the ears, broke her right arm, and injured in her head. She was put under ICU immediately.

She has not yet regained consciousness and is in critical condition.

The occupants of the quarters have held a miring ceremony to appease evil spirits. Some sympathizers have pooled money to help the unfortunate couple. Say a silent prayer for the poor girl and the couple.

I heard it from the coffeeshops and on the streets. It is also in all the local papers esp the chi papers. I don’t know where to get the online ref.

Cathrina is the younger of Peter’s two daughters. His first daughter aged 3 is with his in-laws in Miri. They arrived here from Miri a month ago for work.

Many tree branches broke off and the streets of Sibu were littered with debris. Some trees toppled too.Yours truly’s stainless steel sink was also blown away and later recovered under my mango tree. My roof was also slightly dislodged. I saw my car being hit by a flying black dustbin the normal size used by homes. The damage in Kuching I have heard is worse.

Oh dear, I am so sorry for the baby and family. My prayers are with them.

Thanks Lilian for visiting my blog. Yes, it was a perfectly innocent thing to do as this kongsi type of houses are generally very warm. These are not ’senang’ people. Their life is not easy and for this to happen…the people of Sibu are very sympathetic to them. We just pray that the child will survive and there will be no permanent damage. I will do an update if I get any further info.
