Simple Chinese cooking for small families

Miss Calm and Collected is very busy and working on both my desktop and laptop simultaneously. Benghui woke me up from my afternoon siesta and asked me to cook instant noodles for him.

ingredients

Anyway, considering that I myself was busy the whole day, the ATM machine swallowed my cheque, ferrying Benghui to and fro from all his Sunday commitments, I forgot to go to the market.

This is what I managed to get from my kitchen. Garlic and anchovies ( ikan bilis ) is not in the pic. The whole meal took me about 45 minutes to prepare till it was ready for the dining table. Add perhaps 5 minutes for photography. Miss Calm and Collected said the way I cook is so efficient it is no longer an art but a science. But it feeds the family :)

fried fish with vege
Fried fish with vege. On a plate is placed some salt, pepper, and oyster sauce to taste. Blanch the vege ( dip the vege in hot water till it is cooked and remove and drip dry for a few seconds )
Mix the vege with the ingredients on the plate.

Chop some garlic and use it to flavor the oil. Fry the fish under low heat. Add a little salt on the fish before frying. The fish sauce : mix a little oyster sauce with some water, salt, pepper and garlic powder n stir fry in wok. Pour over fish.

stir-fried cabbage
Fry a little chopped garlic, salt and anchovies and then stir fry the cabbage. Cabbage is great for small families. It can last for a long time in the refridgerator and basically a clean vege. I chopped a stalk of vege into small pieces and stir fried together with the cabbage to make it look better for the pic.

chicken porridge
Chicken porridge ala Bengbeng. Cook as you would cook rice except that you add more water. In this particular case, I cooked the chicken together with the porridge. You can do without but I added a tea-spoonful of Uncle Sun Hainan Chicken Rice Mix because Benghui loves the taste.

the complete meal
As it appeared just before we shared the meal together.

bananas from my garden
To cap it off, we had bananas from my garden.

Try it some time. A simple healthy, low calorie meal. Towards a healthy lifestyle…estimated cost RM8.00 most of it due to the fish. ( at Sibu prices )

Wah, so amazingly fast and efficient. Looks tasty too.

I can cook only a little. And it would take me at least 3 - 2 hours to cook a meal of 3 dishes :P My hubby always complain of intentional murder - for keeping him waiting and starving him to death. LOL

Eleh, why complain now when he already knew I can’t really cook before he marries me. Apalah. At least now I tried :D

haha…thanks for the compliment…the thing is to plan what needs to be done and do it…avoid clutter..eg when u need to wash vege what else can be done at the same time, utilize rice cooker, gas stove, micro etc..dont just wait :)
