Foreigner held for illegally detaining 16 year old Kuching girl
The father of a 16 year-old girl was frantic with worry when his daughter disappeared. He lodged a police report last Monday. However there was a ray of hope when a foreigner believed to be Indonesian sent him a sms and offered to meet him to ‘talk things over’. At least three attempts at meetings were arranged but each time the guy didn’t turn up. Then the father told a relative to inform the man he was sick and in hospital.
This ruse worked and he turned up only to be chased, caught and beaten up by the father and relatives and later handed over to the authorities.
We don’t know the story behind this unfortunate episode but the man did sms the father to tell him she was with him. The father asked a relative to relay the message, so obviously, he was no stranger and could be found. Maybe it was a modern case of Romeo and Juliet to the man but he needs to understand Malaysian laws. At the age of 16, she is an underaged minor and warrants full protection by the law. He committed a crime.
A minor is still a minor.
