Bukit Lima Forest Reserve

On the way to Bukit Lima, we by-passed this place. As it was near high-tide, some drains were overflowing. We took shots of these happy boys playing in the drain.

Bloggers unmasked by the camera in Sibu

Hello everybody,
I have been so busy this past few days. I guess it all started when I did my duty i.e. took a friend to Sibu Gateway for a walk. It was night so I took some pics using ‘night landscape’ mode. I received a few smiles which was fair enough as perhaps they thought I was a tourist.

It was reported in the Borneo Post Feb 21st edition that the RMAF ( Royal Malaysian Air Force ) has set up a board of inquiry to investigate a ’severe’ case of ragging. Mohd Nazim who is the alleged victim in this case was ordered to splash water from a drain on his face, place his head into a rubbish bin, drink his own vomit, immerse himself into a filthy drain besides other physical abuse. Foreigner held for illegally detaining 16 year old Kuching girl

The father of a 16 year-old girl was frantic with worry when his daughter disappeared. He lodged a police report last Monday. However there was a ray of hope when a foreigner believed to be Indonesian sent him a sms and offered to meet him to ‘talk things over’. At least three attempts at meetings were arranged but each time the guy didn’t turn up. Then the father told a relative to inform the man he was sick and in hospital. Read more »

Handsome groom, beautiful bride, Chinese New Year Sibu wedding

Adrian is a good friend of mine. He is what I call the “Salt of the Earth” , sometimes unnoticed but without it, no dish will taste the same :). Salt is also what preserves things from going bad. Adrian is such a man. He is an oasis of good humour and good nature where such values are rapidly vanishing in this materialistic world.

Blind masseur talks back after a massage

Foot massage

A guy from Kuching visited Sibu recently and visited the blind centre. He had a massage and when it was over , it was already late. He thanked the masseur and said, “It is night already so be careful when you walk down the stairs.” The masseur said, ” Tauke, I am a blind man, morning or night it is all the same to me :)

It really happened and shows us how most of us have hearts of gold but don’t really understand the needs of those we are actually trying to help.

Some blind people can see just a little but this particular person cannot see at all.

Please be careful on the road. Do not be just another statistic on road safety campaigns.

It is the time of the year when reunion dinners have been eaten, friends and relatives met, hugged and for some said goodbyes to. Now is the time when many families are thinking of the journey home.

Mukah bridge

I remember a time when I had to drive down to KLIA to pick up a guest. There was no connecting flight from KL as all flights were full due to the cny season. Upon reaching Behrang…i can’t remember if this was the location .., there was a heavy storm and my wipers couldn’t cope with the heavy onslaught of rain. I decided to stop at the nearest highway stop and rest. In the process, I saw many vehicles I have previously overtaken , overtake me. Read more »

Tangkalak, a fresh water fish from Kapit, upper Sungai Rejang

DSCN0950

This is a tangkalak fish. It can only be found at the upper reaches of the Rejang River. It is quite difficult to catch. But it has not been raining heavily recently so this fish is still not as expensive as the years before. It still costs above RM100 a kg. The host used the lid of a cooking pot as a dish as it was too long. The taste? It is different from other fish as it is very fine…it has some fine bones but not to the extent that it becomes a problem. This particular fish was steamed ‘teochew’ style. Read more »

Watching Korean Movie Stained Glass/Melodrama of Beautiful Winter to pass my Chinese New Year holidays.

Hello everybody. I am Mrs Bengbeng. Thank you all for your Chinese New Year wishes. It is deeply appreciated.

It has been ages since I blogged. I have been busy. Sometimes I wish we were still living in our apartment. To maintain a house means work, work and work.

Bengbeng was busy painting the gate until 2p.m. Benghui helped .I prefer him to sit inside the house and study.

Then there was the climbing up and down hanging lanterns, decorations, fixing lights etc. I do not know why men like activities like these. Father and son were happy doing it. To me, not so important. To me I prefer to see new linen on the beds, washed curtains, clean compound and nutritious snacks on the table.

I remember the year we celebrated new year in an apartment. It was nice to have a swimming pool. I had almost no work to do. But I don’t swim and I had a neighbour who liked loud music.

Nowadays people cannot sustain hard work. Two ladies charged an old man RM380 for an hour’s house-cleaning. The ladies thought they had worked very hard.

The hour is one in the morning. I do not know how many visitors will come. I have prepared something just in case. There usually are a lot of visitors.

Mr and Mrs Wuching visited us in December . I had no idea Bengbeng would be bringing them home. I wasn’t properly dressed for visitors. Mrs Wuching was very kind and charming. We watched Korean movie together.

In a way it is nice to have a blog. We look at life through a fresh angle.

I have prepared Melodrama of Beautiful Winter/Stained Glass to keep me company for the next few days. I like to watch Korean movies. The main characters are Kim Sung Su, Kim Ha Nul and Lee Dong Gun.

I will get Bengbeng to take shots and put on my post and then it will look professional.

Happy New Year

Chinese New Year’s Eve in Sibu with Bengbeng

” Daddy, daddy, wake up! We got work to do. It was 7 a.m. and Benghui remembered that we had to paint the gate.” I had forgotten. Obviously he is not afraid of hard work. I wonder whether he will still be the same one day when he has a girl friend. He will probably sneak out of the house when I need him :) But I will enjoy his help while it is still available.
