In my hometown, a teenage girl made a report to the police that she was raped by a man she befriended at a cyber cafe a few hours earlier. He was probably charming and aroused her interest. He took her out and later under the pretext of meeting a friend, he took her to a hotel room. There was no one there but once the door was closed, she found her way out blocked. The same day the girl lodged a report at the Central Police Station.

I highlight this issue because this issue was discussed by my friends at lunch time today. They all feel sorry for the girl while at the same time they wonder how she could have been so ignorant of the potential dangers of going out with a stranger.

There is other information available but I cannot verify that information so I cannot reveal it here. However if she is under-aged, the guy must be even more ignorant than the girl. Knowing Sibu town, the guy couldn’t have planned before hand of getting his way with the girl in the hotel room. So the room must have been there in the first place. To register for a room, some identification is always required.

So, my friends say the biggest fool is the guy. He will definitely be apprehended sooner or later. Under Malaysia’s laws, having sexual relations with an under-aged girl with or without consent is a serious offense and punishment is mandatory. For a few moments of pleasure he has ruined his life and hers while ladies for this purpose are readily available at the usual spots.

As at press time last night, no one has been arrested in connection with the case.
