Bengbeng,engkalang and the Sibu honey and the bees man
A dull morning in the office was averted when an old friend turned up. He is a very friendly man and comes once every 7 months when he harvests his honey. He has several bee-hives and lives in the jungle between Mukah and Selangau but nearer to Balingian.
A jovial man, he is the life of the party and always insists on taking off his slippers before entering the office although we remind him again and again it isn’t necessary. His business is bees and honey. He talks with a slight Indonesian slang so I suspect he is actually an Indonesian or has spent some years there.
He sells these bottles of high-grade honey for RM45.00. The smell is wonderful and the honey is unadulterated pure honey. I have bought it before, it is so much better than what is sold in the shops. I can’t imagine the stuff sold in the supermarkets is called honey too. It is in a different category.
As others were checking out his merchandise, I left to go to the gents where I had an unexpected ‘peeping tom’. It was ok at first. By the time I noticed him, he was staring at me. He looked quite cute too. It is when I stood up, that thingy began to go crazy. It panicked and was all over the place and at one stage climbing up my trousers. It was at least 18 inches long. I estimate the length as one tile is 12 inches and it is 1.5 tile long.
I was told it belongs to the biawak family and some call it engkalang.

He looks jovial indeed. I wonder why he brings the hives too..
BB: He needs it to prove his honey is original. Funny thing about him is his originality. He is unlike anyone else who has passed the doors of the office. Great personality but unfortunately very poor sales recently. In the Central honey is sold at a fraction of the price he charges. He claims that is bcoz of the diffeence in quality but basically it is a matter of his word against theirs.
