Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hasan in Sarawak

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan flew in yesterday to Sibu from Kuching and had a closed door session with Sibu police chief ACP Nicholas Sebastian who gave a briefing at the divisional police headquarters. He came to Sarawak to see and hear for himself what actually is going on. He must have been perturbed by Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s speech in the dewan rakyat last week.

Since then, many parties have come forward to give their views from the politicians, the civil servants, humble rakyat and most recently the chief minister of Sarawak himself.

But after this visit, there will be changes. We can be sure of that. IGP. Tan Sri Musa Hasan has hinted there will be changes to overcome weaknesses in the enforcement of criminal law in Sarawak. However no details are available.

Meanwhile it was reported in The Star that a special task force supervised by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan will be set up to look into claims of widespread gangsterism in several areas in Sarawak. The members would comprise officers from Bukit Aman as well as the state contingent headquarters.

The IGP Tan Sri Musa Hasan said he had come to Sarawak with Deputy CID director Dept Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar to assess the situation and will personally monitor all operations in the state but the police still needs the public’s help and co-operation.
