Bengbeng goes to Kapit Bazaar in the upper Rejang ll

Kapit was guarded by this fort in the colonial times. It is called Fort Sylvia but the people I asked don’t know why it is so-called.

The first thing that struck me was the presence of beautifully done tattoos especially on the older men. This man in the red t-shirt for example has a lovely tattoo on his adam’s apple. The shop houses in Kapit fetch very high rentals. There are many new shop houses being built near the town swimming pool to meet the shortage.

This is one of the more picturesque scenes in the town. On the hill slope is The Church of Immaculate Conception. There are very beautiful stained-glass windows in the chapel.

I believe it is a very safe place. I took a pic of these jewelry which would cost at least RM20K or more.

This very ordinary dish roti canai with egg was a disappointment however. It is deep fried! Give me roti canai original any time. The accompanying chicken curry was ok, though. The drink is Ho Yan Hor Herbal Tea.

We also took some local duku which tasted sweet enough. But generally most food stuff is brought in by boat from Sibu as this community cannot feed itself. The river is the life-line for this community.

They use these metallic images of the horn bill bird to decorate the town.
