Baby girl abandoned in Kuching wet market

I saw a group of my colleagues bunched over a newspaper this morning. What were they gawking at? My curiosity piqued me and I drew nearer. They were all looking at a baby abandoned in Kuching and wondering if she was Chinese.

Anyway, according to the facts in the paper, the baby is sick and there were signs of jaundice around her eyes.

Bengbeng: The poor child. Abandoned in the wet market.

Norah: What do you mean poor child? Some kind soul will turn up and offer to adopt the baby. They will have the means to send the child for treatment. It is good the mother abandoned her so that the baby will have a better shot at life.

Mei Na: But we don’t know who the parents are. They could be anybody. Or their PROFESSIONS!

Norah: The child is God’s creation.

Mei Na: Wei Lung, you are still childless after four years of marriage. If you have a chance, will you be interested?

Wei Lung: She is not of my own flesh and blood.

Anyway, I write this to tell you that no mother would abandon the child like that unless circumstances really forced her. Personally I do not believe her mother left her there and left the area. She probably hung around the area until she was sure the baby was safe.

I also think there will be no shortage of couples willing to adopt her. Let us all spare a prayer for the mother and this little child.

You are right. Under unforeseen circumstances, unfortunately, we are forced to make decisions, right or wrong. I just wished it wasn’t at the wet market. Perhaps a church or hospital.

BB: Yes, I agree with you there.

What about those abandoned babies that are unreported?
    What about those aborted?

In this era of convenience - where people want to have babies but dont want to raise them - i suspect that not all parents have the same moral-thinking.

Yes, the baby may get a good life if she is adopted by caring people. However, no one can deny that there are those pedophiles that “adopt” children to abuse them later.

That said, this incident only served to illustrate the difference in opinions - some think - better to give to another who can raise, and some other see that it is grave risk.

BB: it is a sad business this sort of stuff
