Sibu people’s thoughts of CID director Datuk Christopher Wan’s plan to send 90 anti-gangsterism police officers to Sarawak, particularly Sibu.
It was reported in the Borneo Post today that Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing questioned the wisdom of CID director Datuk Christopher Wan publicly announcing that he was leading some 90 anti-gangsterism police officers to Sarawak, particularly Sibu.
He said that while he appreciated Wan’s efforts against gangsterism, including his promise to nail down the black sheep in the Sarawak police for their alleged corruption and misconduct, he felt that Wan had set aside his (Tiong’s) suggestion to send a team here undercover.
A cross-section of comments I have heard today.
a) I am so glad that finally something concrete is being done.
b) Things will never change.
c) Why did Wan have to publicly announce this move? Does he want to give them a warning?
d) I have noticed the increased police presence in the town.
e) It’s about time.
f) I wonder who will fall?
g) It’s the Bintulu politician. He started it all. We have own politicians to take care of us.
h) Wong Ho Leng ( DAP politician ) has been outdone by Datuk Seri
i) Mark my words, it will all blow over and the situation will return to normal.
j) I must be careful not to beat the traffic lights or illegally park now.
k)I told my brother to remove the dark tint on his car.
l) In Sibu, in the past some things were constant. The people knew where to find the best kampua ( near JPJ ), the best looking Phillipino girls ( xxx nightspot ) and the policemen ( inside the police station ). Now all has changed. The policemen are on the streets. This was followed by bursts of laughter.
m)The gangsters have contributed to the economy of Sibu.
Mylongkang welcomes this move by CID director Datuk Christopher Wan and wishes them success in this venture. It will not be easy and a lot of pain-staking investigative work has to be carried out. It is easy for the people to claim knowledge of ‘things’ and make allegations but the police will have to dig out evidence that is acceptable to the courts.
