I don’t quite understand why I include this in my blog. I am horrified by the ramblings of this man who is obviously ‘not right’ mentally and the horrible events that he has caused to happen at the campus. See the video and make your own conclusions.

It didn’t just happen. It was planned. He doesn’t fit the profile of any killer stereotype that I know of. Let us pray that events like this will never happen again or if an individual like this should pop-up, we identify them before further tragedies like this occur. I now worry for copy-cat attention seekers.

In the rural areas where there is no running water, it is common for the people to bathe in the river. I still remember many a time when I go travelling upriver, I would go to the river, clad in a towel carrying a pail, soap and toothbrush. Many Sarawakians in the rural areas will remember this scenario. The river is everything. Transportation, source of irrigation, source of water, place of recreation. Some stretches of the river banks are even used as a beach.

Sibu Bengbeng almost bitten by snake

It was around lunch time and I was walking to my favorite eating stall when I almost stepped on this snake. It was pissed and angry and how to put it’ raised itself up’ and lunged at me. I could make it dramatic and say I dropped my kongpia or how I heroically caught it etc but all I did was manage to evade it in time. That too was a bit tricky because of my hurt ankle.

Passers-by too were surprised as nobody had noticed it. It was next to a dustbin and seemed to be camouflaged there. Two sweet young things screamed.

I came back later, armed with a camera and it was still there but no longer angry. Just enjoying life in the sun but hidden from public view unless you are looking for it. Some one told me this is a particularly poisonous snake. Anybody out there knows? A name would be enough to google for it to find out if it is poisonous,

The price of love

girls in coffeeshop

‘Love is a many-splendoured thing’ croons the singer while patrons at an entertainment outlet mentally count the night’s cost in ringgit and sen. How much would you spend for your love?

Few would balk at the cast of a single date, or even a trip outstation but what is the limit you would set? Love is immeasurable and cannot be defined so how do we quote a price of love?

Father and son hurt in gas stove explosion

A father and his son were hurt when a gas stove exploded in their home.

Most of us take our gas stove for granted. It is not put in a display cabinet for example but its utility makes it indispensable to all families. Perhaps it is high time for mylongkang readers to check our gas stove and the hose.

Tulku Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche-the Little Buddha or Little Lama

18buddha

The Buddhists of Petaling Jaya and all surrounding areas had a rare honor when Tulku Tenzin Phuntsok Rinpoche, four years old, came to town. He is revered across the world and many believe him to be the reincarnation of the late Great Mahasiddha Geshe Lama Konchong, a highly revered Buddhist master of the 20th century who died in 2001.

He was found after an exhaustive search for the reincarnated Geshe Lama Konchog which ended in a remote valley of the Himalayas. His reincarnation was officially recognised last year and he was ordained in India by the 14th Dalai Lama.

The devotees caught a glimpse of him during a public lecture entitled The Tradition of Reincarnation, at the Losang Dragpa Buddhist Centre here. He was carried by a monk and blessed all present.

Missing child, Yin, safe and sound and reunited with family

You have a child. You love him/her to bits and would do anything for the child. Yet in a moment of carelessness, you lose the child . How would you feel?

The story of Yin captivated the nation. The father showed himself to be a person of sterling character as they went through the crisis. No criminal charges were filed against the woman who had taken care of Yin all this while. Anyway, if reports are true, she even saved the child’s life.

So, here you have a wandering child, a good samaritan, a frantic family, a cooperative police force , many well-wishers and some inconsiderate members of the public.

Yin has been found
and the whole nation rejoices with the family for their lost son found. It could easily have turned out differently.

But it must be a reminder to us to take good care of our children especially the young ones. Are we mentally alert as to their whereabout at all times especially in potentially dangerous areas e.g. busy streets or crowded areas. Remember the color of their clothing so we can scan for their whereabouts with a glance. Keep them near us at all times. Never leave them in a playground etc without adult supervision. Others may covert your child .

Your purse is not the most valuable thing with you when you bring along a child. Some people are ever conscious of their handbags/wallets/purses etc when they are out shopping but are not aware of their child’s immediate whereabouts in a shopping centre.

Update: 16/04/07

The couple who found the child has been arrested and brought to the police station for questioning. They failed to explain why the child was shaved bald and there was no sign of measles as they had claimed. An unconfirmed rumour said they had intentions to use the child for begging purposes.
