Photohunters-Theme:Colorful
Originally I prepared some pics of colorful local delicacies to post for this week’s theme. But this morning I had to go out of town to a saw mill and on the way back, we stopped at a canteen for some drinks. I heard Iban music and we all went over to investigate. See for yourself. Doesn’t it fit the theme well?
Pay attention especially to the elaborate costumes.
It may take months to prepare as each is elaborately stitched by hand to create dazzling patterns according to tribal motifs.

those costumes remind me of my homeland - the Philippines. we have similar elaboration on tribal costumes especially for a town’s festival parade or street dancing.

Thanks. The rice harvest festival is on the 1st and 2nd of June. That is called Gawai. It is equivalent to Xmas in western circles. The dances are danced on occasions like that and the kids are trained since childhood. It is a tradition very much kept alive by its relevance.
The materials they r wearing, some anyway are hand made using family heirloom machines…how to explain make cloth from strings?
