First let me apologize for not visiting other photohunters last week and also this week. I am away from my home in Sibu, Sarawak which is on Borneo Island and at present on holiday in Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Due to difficulty in getting access to a computer, internet access etc, I am not able to surf as much as i wish to. Once again, my sincere apologies. What I do is save on a pen drive and post my posts on a computer when I visit friends etc.
I was at the famous botanical gardens in Penang. At the back of my mind was I still had no pics to put up for this week’s theme: shoes. Then these monkeys crossed my path.
Without shoes the monkeys survive very well in the jungle foraging for food. There is a natural equilibrium. When there are too many of them, less will be able to survive and once the number reaches below a certan level, and the food is enough, more will survive and their numbers will rise again.
However due to increased development in areas surrounding the gardens, some have resorted to stealing from human homes and going deeper into the jungle or going higher up into the hills and venturing further. Some visitors do offer them food but this is not encouraged by the authorities as they prefer the animals to be independent. If you feed them, they will resort to grabbing and attacking visitors especially the younger children for their food.
The number of monkey here number in the thousands.

I contrasted myself with them. I wear shoes. These shoes are cheap imports from Indonesia and cost Rm19.90. They serve their function but in the jungle, I was definitely uncomfortable in them. They didn’t provide enough support.
A happy weekend everybody from Bengbeng!

Those are some interesting looking shoes. Love the pictures of the monkeys, too!
Oh, but they are nice looking shoes!
I love the monkey shots!
BB: the scenery shots r ther environment n dining hall..all they need to survive has to be found here
I’ve always liked monkeys… most animals are the same, if you feed them they will always want to be fed… nice shoes, too!
BB: Thanks. The monkeys in too big a number can b a nuisance sometimes bcoz they r very intelligent animals
More than a thousand monkeys, wow. I am fond of monkeys but can’t get near them. I don’t know, it’s silly. Watching the Outbreak movie gives me goosebumps whenever I see monkeys. Anyway, your shoes look kind of sturdy to me. Surprised they aren’t good in a jungle. Have a great weekend!
Lynn,
These are not tame animals but they r highly inteligent beings. With these shoes, I can slip on slippery surfaces and i can feel the ground in jungles bcoz the soles are not really functional except to keep the feet from the ground
