Sarawak DAP names two candidates for next election

In another clear sign the Sarawak DAP thinks the next parliamentary election is near, Sarawak DAP has named two of at least seven candidates it would field in the next parliamentary election. Confirmed are Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen and Batu Lintang assemblyman Voon Lee Shan, who will contest in Stampin.

MP Chong Chieng Jen is expected to face stiff opposition from incumbent Datuk Yong Khoon Seng. The other seats to be contested by the DAP are Bandar Sibu, Lanang, Sarikei, Bintulu and Miri - all Chinese-majority urban seats and possibly three other constituencies where Bumiputras made up the majority of the electorate.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) is potentially facing opposition from Parti Keadilan Rakyat for the Stampin seat.

This coming parliamentary election could turn out to be an exciting one for the state but the BN is expected to continue its rein over the state given the weak opposition infrastructure in the state. However the opposition might win in a few surprise constituencies.

Let us all wait and see.
