All kinds of unfair speculation

The coffee shops are rife with every body speculating the parties involved in the police probe on gangsterism spear-headed by Bukit Aman. The IGP Tan Sri Musa Hasan has said investigations have already begun. The Chinese daily, Sing Chew Jit Poh also speculated as to the identities involved in the probe further fuelling the speculation.

Daputy Housing and Local Government Minister, Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew in a front page statement in the Borneo Post has called on the police to reveal the names of those involved to avoid unfair speculation. President of Sibu United Chinese Association, prominent business Datuk Lau Cheng Kiong too hoped the police would finish their investigation soon. He is involved in shipbuilding and construction.

Meanwhile, Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation, Dato Sri William Mawan refused to comment on this issue when asked by the See Hua daily news. All he would say was , Leave it to the police”. SUPP secretary general, Datuk Sim Kheng Hui said he hoped the police would have faith in the police who would conduct a thorough investigation before making any official charge.

It is true that rumours are basically rumours. They may be untruths or truths yet unfounded or blatant untruths. That is why they are called rumours. It is very unfair to point fingers when there is no concrete evidence. There must be some concrete evidence and not a trial by media.
