The haze is back in Sibu
I took some pics this morning but I didn’t bring my card reader. The haze is back. We were having supper at Muhibbah food court last night and i heard all kinds of anecdotes about it.
1.My teenage son is finally close to me and my wife. He comes and sleeps in our room.(air conditioned )
2.I told my brother to bring in his kids because of the haze. He said a little haze won’t affect them. Then when suddenly his little one coughed, he lost his bravado and shooed them into the house. She had been eating some crackers which had probably irritated her throat.
3.People still had their lights switched on. I was so careful I thought they were warning of a police block on the road.( He didn’t realize visibility was bad this morning. He has tinted glass on his car. )
4.I had to rewash some of my laundry because it smelled and hung my laundry to dry inside my spare room. My husband scolded me for making things untidy. I challenged him to leave his towel out on the laundry line for one whole day. He did and it smelled. He smelled it haha while he was still wearing it. Si kui kia. He apologized and got frisky after that giggle giggle.
5.My crazy neighbour is still burning garden cuttings every afternoon. It irritated my throat as the smoke came into my room. Then, I saw another coming out to see her. I was so relieved some one would advise her. I am younger than her so it is best not to advise her. In minutes this new neighbour had her own fire going ![]()
6.I am reluctant to go jogging now. Instead I prefer to exercise at an enclosed air-conditioned gym like Kingwood. Along the way, I stopped at the hotel lobby cafe and ordered food and ate and forgot about the gym.
7.A colleague who likes to brag about her holidays took the opportunity too. She said,”Ah, Sibu is now like Genting Highlands. I had such a wonderful time there. Have you been to West Malaysia before, Bengbeng?’ Yeah, right
Sibu like Genting? That is indeed stretching the truth a little. }
8. I arrived from Kuala Lumpur yesterday. There is no haze. The taxi driver said there is no haze. That was the first question I asked him when i got on the taxi. The taxi driver said, “Encik ada mata.” I thought he meant there were police around. Only after i reached home, I realized he said I had my own eyes.
On a more personal level, I don’t think the worst has arrived. It is just beginning. Some people less alert may not even realize its existence in Sibu. Who knows Monkey Wong might be thinking aiya my neighbour why he so bad smoke every day onelah or Clement Wong might be thinking of some romantic bbq somewhere with some chick under the coconut tree tonight further contributing to the haze in Sibu hahahahhahahaa.
My house does seem to be warmer nowadays. I had all three aircons on and this together with my washing machine, hot water heater, fridge and 20 odd lights somehow caused my fuse-box - the whole works - to overheat and melt. Luckily mine is not a wooden house. I had to have it replaced with a new one Rm250.00. The electrician told me this does happen occasionally in older houses when the system is overloaded.
Benghui insists on the aircon being left switched on the whole night now while he is sleeping. I don’t think he realizes the real meaning of haze but sly Benghui takes the opportunity to ask for aircon rights the whole night.
My father in-law has lung problems but he insists on his morning walks. He has finally admitted he feels short of breath nowadays…. or perhaps it is just an excuse to stop exercising without losing face
I have some pics I love to upload but it will have to wait
