Suspect in a murder case attends victim’s funeral
A suspect in a housewife Kek Huey Lian ’s murder attended her funeral causing tense moments amongst the mourners. I am however glad to say nothing ‘unfortunate’ happened and he held Kek’s six-year-old son in his hand and her two daughters, aged four and ten stood beside him. After placing the joss sticks before the coffin, the man hugged his parents and victim’s mother. He is a close relative of the victim.
I feel so saddened by this turn of events. I am however surprised the police entertained his request to pay his last respects. He was handcuffed and escorted by five policeman.
The suspect broke down in tears. However if indeed he committed the crime, it is indeed too late. He may go to jail for a long time but he can never bring the victim back nor return the children their mother.
He may regret the deed. Sometimes in the heat of the moment, crimes of passion do happen. But it is indeed too late. Too late.
A teacher may use the duster and rub the blackboard and the mistake is rubbed off. A doctor may change a patient’s medication or a court can release a wrongly accused defendant but sadly, in this case, the victim cannot be brought back to life.
In this particular case, it involves a family member. There is no one to point fingers at. The victim is gone. The suspect’s future is ruined. The family suffers a double whammy. It cannot be undone.
