SMK Bawang Assan-the tides have changed
There has been a subtle shift in opinion about the students allegedly being asked to soak in a pond for supposedly an hour. In Bawang Assan, Sungai Sedit, Sungai Bidut and in Sungai Maaw, the tides have changed. Even in Sibu, the older generation especially have started revising their views on this issue. The truth is starting to emerge after the initial uproar caused by an article in a local newspaper reproduced in the NST which caused an uproar in the country.
Farmers, factory workers, salaried workers, towkays, lau pan niangs, the mums and dads are now talking about this hard-working teacher with a masters degree from Kuching. Some of them openly question why she is being singled out for the allegedly blown up incident.
It is difficult to keep the truth from emerging. She has been there for three years, the local people and the children she has taught have given their side of the story. It is heart warming that the local people have evaluated the evidence given and given her their support in this issue. The teachers in her school have also solidly stood behind her.
There has also been a new surprise revelation .
Meanwhile rumours of the possible appearance of Deputy Education Minister Datuk Noh Omar at the school resulted in several journalists, including two from China Press rushing to the school. Assemblyman Wong Ho Leng also turned up at the school but the gates were locked.
Wong said there was nothing to hide and he urged the warden to admit her mistakes and apologise to the parents. “People are very forgiving and so long as you admit your mistake and promise not to repeat the mistakes, you are forgiven,†he added.

Forgiveness is the most precious cement between people.
And the courage to stand and say the truth is the catalyst of forgiveness.

Happy to hear that people have started to accept the other side of the story. But did you see the headline in NST today? Call her torture mistress. So sad la. I guess from this we can learn that our newspaper only tells one side of the story.
