Wen Jiabao-leadership by example

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visit to the flood-hit Fuyang region in East China recently brought him a lot of unexpected praise.

Photos of him meeting the flood-stricken residents of the region holding his own umbrella, wearing simple clothes and rubber soled shoes brought him much attention. This was in stark contrast to the group of officials around him who had minders holding aloft umbrellas for them, reported China Daily.

One netizen commented that: ‘Wen holding his own umbrella reveals the essence and purpose of being an official.’

Another wrote that: ‘Through the photos, it’s clear to see what a political leader, as a public servant, should do.’

Perhaps there is a lesson here for all of us. Wen Jiabao is the leader of one of the most powerful countries in the world. Leadership by example.
