Former child prisoner empathises with boy

I read this article by LEE YUK PENG

It tells of a boy who had mixed with the wrong crowd and after serving a long jail sentence, he was given a pardon. He is now living a normal life. He was given a second chance. The word that struck me in the article was ‘a second chance“.

Does every one deserve a second chance. I give a few examples. Perhaps it is not politically correct for me to give these examples but it will give us food for thought.

A hubby who is caught by the wife for cheating on her
A juvenile offender
A child who commits a misdeed
A reformed convict
A sinner as in the eyes of God
A drug addict…and many more cases like these.

The point I want to bring up is we should also examine ourselves sometimes. Some of you may be aware, some bloggers have communicated with me their beliefs. It opened my eyes in an undefined manner.

I am not worthy to give a sermon. I am a nobody. But I found some verses which gave me food for thought.

Luke 15:10
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
John 8
3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” He said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”11″No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared.
Go now and leave your life of sin.She was given a second chance.

To me, this gives me food for thought. Does every one deserve a second chance? Some one who has wronged us, a family feud, a close family friend who has wronged us, son or daughter, a husband or wife…… would we consider giving them a second chance?

Please forgive me if I offend any one with this post. I am just sharing my thoughts. But this past two days my mind has been ‘troubled’ by my conscience. My sympathies are with the tuition teacher’s family who lost their beloved daughter. It was a savage act. On the other hand, I saw the pointlessness of further punishing him. I read on some blogs the various reactions on the blogosphere and it challenged me to examine myself.

the boy speaks out video
Nothing pleasurable about it

not just blind justice

You are right BengBeng, I need to examine myself before being so quick to judge others.

You are quite right in your usage of verses. This is what someone has called the scandal of grace. I suppose you do not go quite far enough. God forgives us by punishing our dues on himself. It is the same as the girl’s father forgiving the teenager and legally punished for the offense. This is the gospel. The offended punished the offender so that the relationship can be restored to all who are willing to take up the offer.
