The Bible and Benghui
At the bookshop:
Daddy. I want this bible.
Daddy: It is very expensive. Are you sure this is what you want? RM51.90 is a lot of money.
Benghui: All my friends have one. My Sunday school teacher says it has all the answers.
Daddy:Answers to what?
Benghui: I don’t know. Teacher didn’t say.
Daddy: But the wording is so small. There are no pictures. I buy you this one. There are pictures and the wording is bigger.
Benghui: I am eight years old already. Teacher says I must read it every day.
(I concede he has a point there. If only he listens to everything I say just like he listens to the teacher.)
Daddy: If you really want it, are you sure?
Benghui : I will wash the car every week.
(I take it that this means he really wants it )
I pay for the book and with the sweetest smile he says, “Thank you daddy. I love you.” ( this is so unexpected and the salesgirl and cashier look at me as if I am a very bad person and the kid is so desperate for a bible
Iiiks….before long, the welfare department will come and see if I mistreat or abuse him
)
At night, I went to check on him. He was half asleep I think. The bible was there. But he was reading a story book. Well. that’s my boy. At least The Bible is on the bed and not lost somewhere. The vision of a Pastor Benghui recedes further and further into the background. Thank goodness.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Uncle Daniel for introducing Sunday school to him and coming every Sunday to pick him up. You are the best. Thanks! Now if only he can change for the better in terms of discipline 20% or more, I would be so grateful. God has been known to make miracles happen. Hopefully it will happen.

oh..so the bible is for holding the picture book open!
hahaahahah…
i tot kids use the red thin bible for sunday skool
He said the teacher said he must bring his own bible.
Benghui said you are wrong
eh any heavy book also can mah…
simon, i guess to the kid the book is multifunctional
I’m sure that, if you ask nicely, he wouldn’t mind sharing it with you too
Hehe.
he wanted this particular one because it is NIV, same one I have but mine is a more expensive version given by my NZ niece
My kids stopped at the 5-min. Bible story around 10 yrs old and they will only buy the real Bible around 14 yrs old, cos teacher said so.
BTW, one of my reader asked for a Bible and I gladly bought one and poslaju. It is such a happy thing - to buy a Bible, isn’t it?
yes, Benghui acted as if I gave him the greatest gift in the world
Haha don’t worry about a Pastor Benghui. It’s good that he will be mixing with people who will hopefully influence him to better discipline.
that is indeed true..i hope Uncle D will rub a little of the good virtues on him
Blessed are those who hunger for the word of God!
he is still too young
Such a sweet innocent post. Yeah you better cherish this moment. Kids will change drastically when they hit puberty so enjoy his innocent company while you still can.
yes, it is true..i believe those days are already numbered
Very impressive young kid who wants a bible. How rare indeed!
have u heard the saying, new broom sweeps clean?
I’ll have no complains if my kids asked for a Bible…I have my own Bible at 16, and I never read it…*shame*
never mind, u have a whole time to read it
So, now BH and BB have a bible each.
Everytime my kids ask for bible, I never say no. Now I have like 20 kids’ bibles and about 10 adult bibles. Never too many.
You must have felt so good when your son said, “Thank you daddy, I love you”…….
BB: to be honest, I felt on top of the world
