I took Benghui to the pasar malam. Before that we had gone to a friend’s housewarming party.
Benghui: That man is so rich. There are so many lights and it is so big. We are so poor.
( Benghui has learned a very important lesson …there are rich and there are poor people in the world )

Posted on 31 August, 2007

Today’s post is out of the ordinary. Being a holiday, I went to visit a friend whom I do not hesitate to call my brother. He lives in a beautifully decorated link house. The place now looks totally different. Gone were the antiques and other interesting curios he brought back from his overseas trips.

Hari Kemerdekaan or Independence Day is almost here and I went around and found few traces of the patriotic spirit in Sibu except for the obligatory banners and flags put up by the Sibu Municipal Council. Unlike previous years, there were few traces of the national flag on cars, motor-cycles, commercial buildings or residential houses. It looks like the mood is not here

I feel so relieved. The work I have piled up is finally done. So I went to the gym. It would be like any other day except that an aerobics class was on. Only a few of the guys felt like joining in as it seemed a ‘less guy thingy’ to do.

Linda: Mid 20’s woman, sales executive. Height 1.67m, slim, with curled hair. Large eye-glasses which make her look even younger almost school-girl like.

I was so embarrassed and worried we would dirty his car. We also smelled from the long walk. He said it was ok. He said he also smelled.

I had a very busy morning. Early in the morning, I took Benghui with me to the Sibu Benevolent Home . It is a home for old folks. My intention was to show Benghui the concept of old age.
Bengbeng; Everybody grows old. When they grow old, they need people to take care of them. Now daddy and mummy take care of you. Next time, you have to take care of us.
Benghui : Yes, daddy. Like grand-dad and granny.
( He was so sincere and direct my heart almost skipped a beat. This boy is not kidding. He means it. )
