Photohunters theme: Row
This week’s theme is row. As a child, I lived in this row of link houses whenever I visited my relatives. It is most unfortunate however that these pre-World War ll houses were not well maintained and when the houses decayed, doors and windows were replaced with modern ones which detracted from its beauty. As you can see, the modern grills etc clashed badly with the original structure. The verandah which you can see is where I played tag, hide-and-seek and the back alley of these houses was where I played marbles.

For the benefit of Penangites, this road is Jalan Sri Bahari, somewhere off Transfer Road and near Odeon Cinema.
This second pic shows rows and rows of flowers presented to The Lord Buddha to show devotion of Buddhists.

Nice shots for the theme. It brought back many fond memories right? Happy Weekend! http://crizlai.blogspot.com/2007/08/photo-hunters-row.html

It’s a shame how some structures are not maintained, since it is history. Beautiful flowers, and soooooo many of them. Have a happy weekend. Mine is up, please come visit. http://kissedalotatoads.blogspot.com

Those houses sure look like the ones in Ipoh! Ancient, huh?
they have a hole facing the sky for ventilation and light. wonderful house in its prime
Wow! The place is overflowing with flowers!
seeing the place brings back childhood memories, huh? That is what I experienced if i visited the place that i used to stay or played in the past
actually my heart felt cold…i remembered the trishaw rides, the thick roti and kaya, thick kopi-o and once while i was there, i was playing with plasticine, it caused an infection in my nails. went to see a chinese sinseh..prescribed some leaves to wrap up my fingers..later went to GH. doctor sad i could have lost my fingers
I was oso told i lost a sister there, 2 yrs older than me
I always liked shophouses. There is something very nostalgic about them. Unfortunately many of these have become very commercialised.Good shot!

. I will go back to read from time to time
Nice rows.
Look at all those flowers! Just lovely.
It’s sad when historical places are not well maintained the way they should be. I guess it’s not always easy considering the amount of money involved in it.
The rows of flowers are lovely.
That type of destruction of old housing is endemic all over, and you are right: it is a shame. I am really impressed with the presentation of the flowers. there are thousands!
Interesting history lesson on rows. I am seeing more and more of these homes being built here in the US today!
Come visit mine if you haven’t made it already. If you have, thank you!
Great rows. I like the flowers and the building. Good stuff.
Too bad they had to modernize those houses instead of sticking with the older look! Nice photos.
mayb it is bcoz it is expensive to redo it the way it was
