Parenthood failings

newshock

Something happened again today. Mrs Bengbeng and i were tired after work today and took a short nap. Benghui tried to be considerate or more likely he just wanted to imitate what i do. He tried to fix the sockets for his computer all by himself.

I don’t know what happened. The whole house shut down. I managed to restore the system by pushing up the switch at the fuse box. I don’t know if his computer is ‘gone’.

He needs to be watched over all the time. If he had electrocuted himself…I dread to think of what could have happened. There is a burnt smell in the house.

Of course, he was in a state of shock and kept saying sorry. I just hugged him and told him never to do it again without our supervision. His little heart was beating so fast. He was not physically harmed in any way. Thank God, a little angel is watching over him.

The problem is he wants to be independent and do things by himself. When I think of 5x mum with five kids and so many blogs I wonder how she manages it.

Once again, I have failed him. Parenting is so difficult at this age. Praise God. From now on, I have to watch over him like a hawk. I only wish the grandparents are staying with us.

Dont be too hard with yourself.

    thanks, Josh

I agree with Josh, don’t blame yourself. Things like this happened. Main thing is, he learn for this experience and that he is safe. Kids will always experiment I think.

The thing is there is no room for error. I always worry abt fire, traffic accidents, water and electricity. Just to keep him safe.

Dont be too hard. Kids nowadays, not all, but at least i am one of it, are always looking for independent. Dependent let me lack of sense of safety, as I always worry how I will live if I lost the dependent, then tend learning to independent. Kids learn from mistake, and grow from mistake.

hope he will grow up a good man like you :)

Bengbeng, you have not failed him. As parents we all try to do our best for our children but on the other hand, we do not have eyes all over our head.

As Josh said, you must not be too hard on yourself. Children learn things and sometimes the lessons are painful for both parent and child.

Benghui is a good boy and both Mrs Bengbeng and you are great parents. That’s all you can do.

He now has a mind of his own. he nneds to be explained to and not told what to do :( he will ask why this why that..it is so tiring

I always tell mine not to touch those plug.
Till now, he is ok with that.
(of course, that means we have to do a lot more legwork)

Benghui doesnt always listen to what we say :(

yeah, sometimes children (and adults!) need to learn the lesson by going thru the whole process “hands on”, but accidents like this do happen. no one can be blamed.

u and mrs bengbeng are only human, u can’t be everywhere 24/7, times like this we all have to learn what is trust and faith - in God.

dun worry bengbeng! :) i think u both are doing great as parents!

sometimes we jus feel tired with the demands of our our careers and our role as parents
