Gardening and parenting

“That’s it”, I told Benghui last night. You wake up early tomorrow and do some gardening. He was still watching a Korean series movie Happy Together.

Oh boy, how I regret that statement. At 5.30a.m. , he woke me up. Is there a fire, is mummy sick, is grandma’s leg ok were the first thoughts on my mind. My heart went to fast mode.

Benghui : Daddy, i want to work in the garden.

I thought to myself I started the whole thing so I must see it through. True enough, he worked hard. I tried to put the dog in the cage because Oopi was so excited and tried to give us sneak licks. It resisted all attempts to force it to enter its cage. Benghui took Oopi’s plate and made as if to go to the cage. Oopi went in immediately.

Benghui : You see daddy, mummy always does it like this giggle giggle.

He washed the concrete table and chairs.

bh2

He pruned the plants ( in this case a local orange tree )

banana

This used to be a banana tree which gave us excellent yield. The guy who gave us said it was called Lau Hieng Dieng banana ( named after a SUPP politician supposedly because he introduced it into a local community or he planted it during some ceremony or other. It gave us excellent yields and after it fruited, we chopped it down and its offspring just kept bearing fruit. My father-in-law suggested I chop it down because it was bringing bad feng-shui. It refuses to disappear. It keeps on renewing itself.

What is this? It is my pathetic attempt to make an ‘artistic pictorial composition’ . hahahahahhahahah

The fruit from the flower

Flower of the humble star fruit.

Left unattended and unwrapped, the fruits drop to the ground.

Benghui offered to take over the gardening and from the kitchen we both heard Mrs Bengbeng shouting. She had just woken up.

Mrs Bengbeng: Beng, you siao huh? ( crazy ). So many mosquitoes and the sun is so bright. Benghui, don’t touch anything. The garden is dirty. Come in immediately, you hear. Come in now. Beng, make sure he is careful. He is too young, you siao lang. ( crazy man )

Benghui winks at me and goes in.

tv

This is what I see when I enter the house. :( Mrs bengbeng is complaining he is not studying enough. :(
