Photohunters: Weekly theme - paper
This week’s theme is paper. My post is basically very simple. This is something I made of recycled wrapping paper. The paper is cut into small pieces and then rolled into cylinderical shapes to form a base.
I then cut off a small plastic bottle to act as a vase and load it down with small stones so that it will be more stable. I then surround the cut plastic bottle with the same rolled up papers to hide the plastic. I made two as a cross beam at the top.
Add some flowers into the vase and you have a ready made vase of flowers in this particular case sunflowers.
I suppose I could buy some stuff but I prefer to recycle rather than buy ready-made stuff. It makes a conversation piece and it encourages my kid not to waste precious resources. However, I don’t think I am successful in this particular aspect. He still prefers bright shiny, new, instant stuff that can be paid for with money than recycle
The storage thingy on which the flowers stand is a tree branch which has been shellacked. Pieces of wood are then pushed into small gaps made into the branch as a circular storage shelf. The wood is kayu belian or traditionally called iron wood. It can last a century or even much more if well preserved. It is normally used for making the pillars of houses and long houses.
I would like to end with these words. I am enjoying my life, my family and my world. Hope you are too. Have a nice weekend every body.
Thanks for visiting my blog.

Wow you’re creative. This is another side of Bengbeng we haven’t see.
Mrs BB did the flower arrangement
That is really creative and quite beautiful. I shall have to try something like that. What a great post for this week too. Have a good weekend.
You are so creative and talented! I am envious.
I am going to bookmark this post. This would make a fantastic Mother’s Day project for my third grade students. By using old magazines and soda bottles, it would be fantastic (cheap) for me too!
you will have to weigh it down with stones or marbles or something because it is very light. at the bottom of the base you need 2 perpendicular paper beams same stuff so that the rest of the base has somewhere to rest on n not move..b immobile
this is a neat idea…mine is up at MY TWO CENTS WORTH hope you visit me.
Hey, I used to do that a long time ago.
I would ripped off pages of magazines, much to the annoyance of my Dad and elder cousins. I made some pretty good artwork but I have lost all of them due to moving houses all these years.
time t do it again?
Wonderful. We use to do that in high school but we made paper baskets and trays instead of vases. We use varnish to make these shiny.
Thanks for sharing these photos and for giving importance to recycling materials to be able to save resources and money.
Have a great Sunday, BB
Thanks Julie
Very cool, BB… you are an artist at heart! That is some creative recycling… good work!
I’ve seen those paper vases @ Eden Handicap Service Centre’s Recycling Unit. I was impressed by their creativity when I first saw it. And then I realized that I was the “jakun” one, LOL.
i too picked up the idea from a jumble sale. it is so easy to do. just roll n create
This is so beautiful and so creative. Well done and Happy Photohunting :o)
