Sarikei and Lions Peace Poster launching
We left Sibu at about one in the afternoon. There is a lovely little quaint sea food restaurant under the bridge. I took the pic from the restaurant’s car park.
I had family day. Mrs Bengbeng and Benghui accompanied me to Sarikei. To get there we had to use a ferry across the Nyelong River. Very soon, this ferry itself will be a thing of the past when the bridge is ready. As it was, we had to wait three trips before we could get on board the ferry.
I drove carefully as the ramp was quite steep and I saw a Proton Wira scraping his under carriage against the concrete and heard the unpleasant scratching sounds it made. The poor owner must be very unhappy
.
The ticket collector came over, smiled and asked,” Your first time huh?,” and laughed. I paid him RM1.00
A good friend of mine found that it was not easy to handle a bird in her hand.
Even the gentlemen found a bird in the hand is not easy to handle.
These birds did not know what to do with their new found freedom. They just hung around.
They do not belong in the wild. They gathered around us and refused to leave. They are so tame.
Not scared of me at all.

what do u think of the charges of the sibu bridge? someone said at Rm6 it is expensive for regular users who live on the other side to enter town. they prefer the government ferry that was there before which though slower, is cheap. building toll bridges may not be the answer to sarikei’s river crossing. the ferry crossing is slow because people have to wait for the ferry so maybe a better solution to the slow wait is to provide more ferries rather than build a bridge.then there will be more jobs for the locals and costs to cross can be kept low. also ferries are a very picturesque way of crossing a river. private companies are the only ones to gain when they build a private bridge and charge everyone for crossing. what u think?
The bridge across this river will be free. So is the bridge over to Durin but the Sibu Lanang Bridge remains I believe the most expensive toll bridge in Malaysian history as of this date if we do not take into account the trans national bridges.
The Durin bridge is just as long and even more recent but is free too.
that cilaka ferry i went on before when i was there; my friend’s proton’s under also got scrapped, summore number fell off also! tiu!
soon it will b a thing of the past
