Photohunters: Weekly theme - paper

photohunters2mo1

flower-base

This week’s theme is paper. My post is basically very simple. This is something I made of recycled wrapping paper. The paper is cut into small pieces and then rolled into cylinderical shapes to form a base.

I then cut off a small plastic bottle to act as a vase and load it down with small stones so that it will be more stable. I then surround the cut plastic bottle with the same rolled up papers to hide the plastic. I made two as a cross beam at the top.

Add some flowers into the vase and you have a ready made vase of flowers in this particular case sunflowers.

I suppose I could buy some stuff but I prefer to recycle rather than buy ready-made stuff. It makes a conversation piece and it encourages my kid not to waste precious resources. However, I don’t think I am successful in this particular aspect. He still prefers bright shiny, new, instant stuff that can be paid for with money than recycle :(

The storage thingy on which the flowers stand is a tree branch which has been shellacked. Pieces of wood are then pushed into small gaps made into the branch as a circular storage shelf. The wood is kayu belian or traditionally called iron wood. It can last a century or even much more if well preserved. It is normally used for making the pillars of houses and long houses.

I would like to end with these words. I am enjoying my life, my family and my world. Hope you are too. Have a nice weekend every body. :) Thanks for visiting my blog.

Of a stray cat n streamyx suspended account

cat

A stray cat found its way into my compound last night. It could have been killed by Oopi my dog had Oopi discovered it earlier. As it was, Oopi was still in its cage busy eating. I speculate its owner had thrown it away and it had gotten lost. It was crying all the time. It was also tame and came when I called for it.

Penang Laksa

laksa

I was so excited I saw Penang laksa for sale. I haven’t had it for ages. I can still remember the Air Itam market laksa. I paid RM2.00 for this laksa sold in Kampung Hilir. Unfortunately it was a disappointing culinary experience.

A look at the pic would tell you the story. The colour of the soup is wrong. There are no pine-apple strips, small onions, spices like ‘daun ketumbar if I am not mistakena about the term for the herb. What is also missing is the essential prawn paste. The vendor used canned sardines for the soup and it turned out as a thin fish soup.

Disappointment big-time! The laksa noodle is a type of dried noodles soaked in hot water. The vendor took the trouble to cut it into small pieces which puzzled me. It just made eating it more troublesome and no tastier :(

Moral of the story : You want Penang laksa, go to Penang.

A comment and pic from chen

Looks so fake. What an insult to Penang Assam Laksa Must scold the person who sell the that laksa. Summore he put lime on the laksa, he thought that is Swak Laksa meh?

So them this is how the authentic Penang Assam Laksa looks like

Chen, thank you so much. It looks wow wow wow and I miss it so much. You are right. The local Penang laksa pales in comparison to the real thing :(

I don’t know why I live

It is getting harder for me to wake up every day. There is nothing to look forward to. I used to rejoice in my flowers and fruit trees. But they don’t talk to me. They cannot touch me. I used to go over to my neighbours’ houses and chat. But now I realize how inappropriate it is.

Blogging in a cyber cafe isnt quite the same as blogging in the comforts of home. :( I will still try to post and answer comments but my online time will b reduced for the time being.

Happy blogging every body. Thank you for your continuous support.

I just can’t stand my in-laws. They visit us every weekend and mess up the home. They keep asking me why we have no child? I am not deaf. I can hear. Even if they ask a million times, the outcome will be the same. I am powerless to change the circumstances.

Teenage boy problems and padi field memories

I don’t know when it happened. I don’t know my son any more. He sleeps late, his room is untidy and he goes to school when he feels like it. When I ask him to go to sleep he barks at me and almost bites my head off it seems.
