Of Hong Kong conmen, lucky draw, Mrs Bengbeng, high court troubles and me

Character : Barry, 28 year old male 1.68m and 60kg. An IT whizz and with a passionate love for speeding and fast cars.

Barry: I received a phone call. Gave them my full name, bank account number, house phone number too. They said I had won HKD300 000 in a lucky draw. I am so lucky. I knew it could be a trick. I gave them an old account which has less than RM20.00 in it. I got nothing to lose. Later on this same guy told me to release the money I had to sign an authorization letter permitting them to deposit money into my account. They sent me such a document through e-mail with the names of an organzation, another bank account next to mine and the name and address of a lawyer. I signed it in a strange way so that the bank would be suspicious. A day later he called me after that to say the signatures don’t match.

I hung up the phone. I then confided in a friend. He told me they would probably use my particulars to open an acount in Hong Kong and they possibly withdraw my money or borrow money using the same account and I would be liable. This made me very angry.

When he called me again I told him i am not related to him so why he is doing me such a big favor? He said he wants to spread happiness around. It sounded so false i almost shrieked at him. He then passed the phone to his lawyer. I had enough of all this nonsense. If they are sincere, what is there to stop them from directly depositing the HKD 300 000 into my account. I had enough of all these nonsense

I went to the bank and cancelled this inactive account. I tried to outcon them . They almost conned me in spite of what i thought were smart moves on my part.

As a side note : Mrs Bengbeng received a phone call yesterday at four forty five saying I was in trouble in the high court and might be jailed for a very long time. it seems that some of the funds in my account were from drug money. She asked Mrs Bengbeng for our account numbers. She even gave Mrs Bengbeng a phone number to call to vouch for her. She was only trying to help. The money she said was to smooth matters over so the case and investigations would be overlooked.

Mrs Bengbeng had to go to the bank to sign an authorization letter permitting them to withdraw funds from our account to settle matters. Mrs Bengbeng was very worried and scared. She almost threw the receiver down.

I told her we are ordinary people and not in any way involved in any dealings contrary to the law. She refused to be calmed. I then searched for and found some references in the newspapers to show her such cases are not new.

Readers, be forewarned. Statistically the probability of our receiving such a call is almost nil but we did. This means, the syndicate involved is somewhere out there in a big way.

I got several phone calls from the Hong Kong scam before. The first time I said not interested, then the subsequent times I pretended not to understand Mandarin. You must tell more people and especially BengHui about these scams so they don’t get tricked.

I suspect they are just dialing phone numbers at random.

i suspect so too but they cause so much damage

My mother got the similar phone call also. And I plan to write this case also.. Hahaha..
They just simply pick up the number at the yellow pages and dial to see who is the LUCKY one.. :P

after Mrs BB threw the phone down, they didnt call back which is a relief..it is like a brush with the under world…creepy

If I receive such a call, I will ask them to give me money instead. I usually ask them “you have anything free for me?”. If they say “no”, then I will say then don’t waste my time and your time!

    Very effective. :)

i think best is to put down the phone
