Son in Sound of Music family dies
Oh my God! Has it been that long since The Sound of Music was filmed? I think almost everybody aged 30 and above has seen the film, The Sound of Music. It is brought back and reycled every ten years. It never fails to please as a family based entertainment. It had all the elements of a thriller with war as a persistent background for the movie.
Julie Andrews was the first woman I fell in love with. I remember her vividly singing, “The hills are alive with the sound of music, …………….” with the Austrian Alps as the background. It was awesome. I think it tells a lot I don’t remember the name of the actor who played Captian von Trapp
Ah, I remember now. Christopher Plummer.
Werner von Trapp, a member of the family made famous by the legendary Hollywood film The Sound of Music, has died aged 91 at his home in Waitsfield, Vermont, USA.
Sound of Music was loosely based on a 1949 book by Mr von Trapp’s stepmother Maria and some details were changed for cinematic effect. Werner von Trapp was depicted by the character named Kurt.
The Sound of Music opened on Broadway in 1959. The Julie Andrews film version in 1965 won five Oscars.
For those of you who were still angels in heaven at that time or still wearing diapers, the film tells the story of an Austrian woman who becomes governess to a widower with seven children. She falls in love with the captain, marries him and then flees with the family from the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany.
In the film they hike over the mountains to Switzerland although in real life, the family took a train to Italy and then went on to the United States, where they toured successfully as the Trapp Family Singers and later settled in Vermont.
