My mother doesn’t understand me

Character : female, 19 years old. height 1.59m, 50kg.

Suzie: I don’t know what is wrong with Alan. Ever since I had my hair treated, he has been like a pig with a tooth-ache. He is always calling me when he has nothing to say. He is just checking out my movements.

It is useless to tell him I have no other boy-friends. After work, he is there on his motor-bike waiting for me. He sends me to work. He lives near the airport but he still comes every day for me. I have my own bike. I can easily go to work by myself.

My mum wants me to stop seeing him. She doesn’t understand. She is so unfair. She sees him smoking and drinking and thinks he is automatically a bad guy. He cares for me,ok and that is why when he calls and can’t get through he scolds and shouts at me. My mother said we can be friends but not married. You can’t blame him for what he is. His family is poor,ok? He stopped schooling at the age of thirteen.

Bengbeng: What is his job?

Suzie: He is not working now. His ex-boss doesn’t like him. They all don’t understand him. He is just working for a living,ok? He is not their slave. Sometimes people are late for work or not feeling well. The boss pays him a little money and dares to scold him. This is 2007 now,ok?

Bengbeng: I think you should go out and meet more people. There are so many people you meet every day in your job, in church etc. You are too young to be courting. When we are young, life should be about having fun.

Suzie: Uncle I respect you,ok but this is none of your business. You are just like my mother. Nag. Nag. Nag.Talk, talk, talk. Boringlah. Why you come? One day he will be successful and you will look at him differently.

Bengbeng: Your mum says you go out drinking with him and come back late ?

Suzie: ><())(*&&* that mother of mine. Why she must call you to speak to me and not herself. Why is my father never home. You ask her that.

There is nothing wrong with beer. Many people go drinking too. We just go over to relax. He loves to karaoke. When we don't go drinking I join him on his bike as he speeds his bike in Upper Lanang area. He loves to race and to speed. It is very exciting. ( giggle )

Don't look at me like that. He will prove you wrong. He will prove every body wrong. Uncle Beng, we are not even related, ok? You tell my mother she wants to talk to me, she comes herself.

I am no longer a little girl. I am nineteen now. It is all her fault. If she sent me to tuition when I was in primary school, maybe I would be in university now. She never even looked at my report card.. She doesn’t care. Now I am working, she wants some of my money.

Bengbeng: Please go home. She is your mother.

Suzie: I am very busy, Uncle Beng.

exit Bengbeng the absolute failure. I really don’t know why I have to go through this charade :(

She is still young and doesn’t know what is a difficult life if married such a guy. Not that I am looking down at people. I do not mind if he is poor BUT at least he is working.

he cannot stay put in a job for long

    It’s tough.

But time changes a person, may it be for the better or worst. Some people never realise, it all depends on the surroundings.

Rather than criticise and push people away for this and that, sometimes a true friendship is more of just being there and treating the person as another person without barriers. But it’s difficult for a family in such a state.

Since she has set her mind, it’s quite pointless to change her mind. Unless one can stimulate the way she thinks…

she is earning.she has a boy friend. it will b hard to change the circumstances
