In the Foochow culture as in most ethnic Chinese culture, red is for auspicious occasions. Other than that, red is a little too loud for most occasions unless one is very young and beautiful.

I definitely cannot wear red For ths week’s post I had to dredge up old pics. This pic was taken during an auspicious occasion. Here you see Mrs Bengbeng being made up. I was shooed out of the room while she was made ready.

Mrs Bengbeng is a very simple woman who never wears make up. So, for her it was a new experience. But it had to be done to suit the occasion.

Voila, the make up is complete I thought of asking the beautician for the same treatment, One look at me, she combed my hair with one brisk stroke and said she could no more. Beyond help I believe she said. She smiled and winked so I don’t know if she meant it

i woke up early and went to work. The weather was a little downcast and I expected it to rain. Then the contractor called and said they needed entry to my house. Mrs Bengbeng had gone to the market and Benghui had gone for tuition. Then I couldn’t leave any more. Another day of not working.

I was momentarily stunned when I received this question from a reader. She introduced herself as a late 20s mother of one daughter and is now pregnant with another. Apparently some friends of hers had come back from Sarawak and brought her some kana or what is commonly called Sarawakian olives.

She had eaten it before she was pregnant and she loved it. It is just that she is worried that it might affect her unborn baby. She asked her mother-in-law and was told as kana is black, it might cause her unborn baby to suffer from excess pigmentation when the child is born.

I am not a doctor. Anybody has anything to say? I managed to google this link here but I don’t think olives are the same as kana or are they?

It has been raining non-stop since Wednesday and this has caused flash floods in Marudi. Some residents from Rumah Jimbau have been forced to higher ground. They are now housed temporarily in SK Rumah Gudang. Also affected are some longhouses in the Puyut-Lubuk area.

In some of the areas the flood waters was said to be about 1.5 metres deep. As at press time, it was still rising and it was still raining.A number of moorcar and motorcycles are damaged as the sudden waters caught many unprepared. Some livestock and poultry were also washed away.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to be alert at all times.

Boy burnt at petrol kiosk

I refer to the above link. Muhammad Ikmal Imran Ahmad Nizam suffered 70% burns on his face and body. This is indeed a shocking incident. I have heard of incidents where smoking is involved or mobile phones are involved but this is the first time I have heard of an incident like this.

As a parent, I wonder how I can protect my child.

Oh, the ladies are no longer in Sibu. They have left and Sibu has felt the void. Without them, life has lost a little of the glamour. Here we see Miss Chinese Taipei, Li Mi and Miss Australia. We miss you ladies but they will be back for the grand final on December 7th at RH Hotel.

They will also have a chance to visit Mukah when they come back.

He probably must be wondering why he is so lucky to have the most beautiful ladies in the world at his place. The food there is quite good and the decor tasteful without being loud. Peter Tiong is a nice guy. He even came over and chatted with me and josh incorrigible when we went over to Cafe Cafe.

Today was a disaster. I had plans to lay my concrete today. But the weather seemed a little downcast. I was reluctant to have it done. But the pre-mix concrete lorry arrived and told me I had to accept delivery or I would be charged anyway. The help I paid for had also arrived.

I think I am going to drop off to sleep soon. It has been such a tiring day. Even though I had help, it was also very stressful and extremely tiring. Mrs BB will be away until Wednesday evening. With running here and there ferrying Master Precious Cargo aka Benghui for tuition I am totally bushed. Not to mention running to buy hardware materials negotiating prices, finding help and making sure Benghui takes a bath and doesn’t go out as it is dangerous outside with renovation materials every where.

This week I highlight a board game I have been playing with my kid. It is called tic-tac-toe. For a kid, it can mean hours of fun and stimulates intellect.
