My Longkang

Today being a public holiday we went marketing at the Sibu Central market. It was crowded with people.

I found that things were much cheaper here. I must have saved quite a lot of money buying things from this market. But the story today is about Benghui meeting a YB.

I was loaded with plastic bags and Benghui helped me carry some items. Suddenly Benghui saw some men selling ‘newspapers’. “Look, daddy…men selling newspapers.” The next thing we knew some people came over to shake our hands.

“The YB is here with us this morning,” one of the smartly dressed man said. I must apologize for although he looked familiar I couldn’t make him out.

Benghui was interested in him. He asked how old Benghui was. Did he study hard etc. etc. and won Benghui’s heart. We left soon after.

Benghui: Who is that man?
Daddy: He is a YB.
Benghui: What is a YB? Good people or bad people? (That is a fair and reasonable question so I answered after some thought.
Bengbeng: Good people.
Benghui: Is he government people? (Another good question. Yes, an elected representative is government people)
Bengbeng: Yes, he is government people. He is a big man. A leader.
Benghui : When I big people, I want to be YB like him.
Mrs Bengbeng almost fell off her chair laughing.

Personally I am glad Benghui has met him face to face. It gives me an opportunity to teach him a little about politics. Well not much, but at least he knows a YB is a leader, government people and good people
