Scam involving Sibu businesswoman believed to run into millions
The folks of Sibu are stunned by the number of victims a woman had single-handedly conned in Sibu. As more and more victims come forward, the amount involved has reached RM1.5 million. But the figure is expected to be much, much higher but some victims may chose not to report as they see no point in doing so.
The largest amount conned is RM270 000 and the smallest is RM20 000. There is speculation her husband might be involved but investigations are still going on. The 32- year-old woman had name dropped a number of influential people in Sibu society to build up her credentials. She herself is a director of the Sibu Businesswomen Association.
Her scam was like this: She made up a federal government scheme called Urban Poverty Project that gives investment opportunities to the poor. It was alleged that the opportunities were given through the Land and Local Council Department to let them invest in land and properties. DAP Chairman Wong Ho Leng who watches over the welfare of the Sibu people like a hawk has denied the existence of such a department. The woman, speculated to be a certain Madam Y had also borrowed money from people and promised interest of between 10 and 20 per cent for a ten day period.
She also operated a tuition centre and many parents of the students were also conned. Rumors floating around town has it that with her Mercedez and with titles of six units of shophuses in her handbag coupled with her acquaintence with top society figures in Sibu, many had believed her.
Speculation has it that she is not in Sibu and that all the parties involved would like her to come back to work on a settlement.

have you met her? she is a very good con woman if she can operate like this and fool so many people. haha. I cannot help laughing at the last statement, ‘all parties would like her to come back and make settlement’. I bet they would haha. but will she come back? why would she come back!!! if she is clever and she is, sibu will never see her again. she will change her identity and disappear with the money. i know it is bad for those who are fooled, but somehow, i cannot help feeling a bit of grudging admiration for this lady.

of course she’s not in sibu, she’s probably hiding in australia or england or usa like so many con artists in sibu do after they ripped off their victims! don’t look at me like i’m one of those lah coz i’m not!
