School holidays and child management
How do you keep your kid occupied? We have been trying to arrange some activities that will keep him occupied.
Benghui has been like so bored recently. We are trying our best to keep him occupied to keep him out of trouble. So it was with delight when we received a chess set from Josh. Playing board games has kept him out of our hair a little. Josh had been so patient with Benghui teaching him and also my family board games.
I am so glad he came to stay with us. I have learned lots from him on how to handle my Benghui. I have been guilty of talking down to Benghui instead of talking to him. Benghui misses him so. Come to think of it. I miss him too
I particularly enjoyed playing backgammon with him. But I always lost.
Maybe it is a sign my family needs to go out and socialize more.
I took Josh Incorrigible’s advise and spent some time with Benghui playing these games. It comes with droughts, tic tac toe, 9 men’s Morris, snakes and ladders and ludo. I recommend these activities to all parents with younger children. The excuse most parents give is that they are too tired or busy after a hard day’s work.
It is the time spent together that counts. I have yet to start the other suggested activity- spend time reading together. I will schedule some time at the local library. I will let him choose the books and will read them together with him.

Try playing Monopoly as a family. I did that when I was as young as Benghui, if not older. It was fun! It took a long time but it was funny when someone landed on the land with hotels and went bankrupt. It kept us laughing all night. Hahaha!
if i try to teach him all the rules soon I would get impatient n throw the hotels all over the place
Nice, but I also seldom play board game. Now my socialize activities are yam cha and skating only… Want to try skating?
i roller skated well in my youth. i tried ice skating once. i got the hang of it after half an hour. i enjoyed the activity. but my bones r ancient n creaking nowadays
nowadays i look forward to jogging on tread mill or gymming…too used to creature comforts while doing exercise
You can bring him swimming, to the beach, ride bicycle….father and son time.
the nearest beach is 3 hrs drive away hehe. as for bicycle we r afraid for him to learn cycling. i bring him swimming at the pool
Let him start to blog
sounds like a magnificent idea haha
Oh..that’s a good idea. My eldest is 5, but is showing interest in board games..those simple ones u mention…is good. Better get it here, while it’s cheap n light!
Thanks BB!
it is good. it teaches him how to lose and how to win
Go to sports.
Mrs BB would rush over n say..stop. he will hurt himself
the only sports he does is wushu
I do play some easy board games with Eu once in a while and reading together is something that we do a few times a day - it’s important to us that our kids enjoy books as much as we do.
