Sibu flood update-Caution to all Sibu readers
There was a big tide at 10pm last night. Today’s is 8am and 10pm. The next ones are 9am and 10pm on Dec14, 9am and 11pm on Dec15, 10am and 11pm on Dec 16 and at 12 midnight on December 17.
As such all residents in Sibu are advised to take safety precautions. Those particularly at risk are those living along the banks of Batang Rajang, Batang Igan, Kampung Nangka/Abang Barieng, Jalan Salim/Stabau, Jalan Lanang and surrounding low-lying areas in the town proper such as Jalan Hua Kiew, Jalan Tong Sang, Jalan Lai Chee, Jalan Tiong Hua and Jalan Kampung Nyabur.
Be especially alert of the whereabouts of your children. Cars should be parked on higher ground.

And where exactly is YOUR house? Then I can drive over to look-see…; old man so kay-po bah! LOL! How bad was it? The water has gone down at my place…the car porch has resurfaced, praise the Lord! But usually in the daytime, the tide is lower!!! Just hope that it won’t be so bad tonight…..!!!

Be careful with the water as it may have high level of bacteria. From what you tell me.. Sibu(or parts of) is unsewered, so ,amy houses septic systems I presume. Flood water can easy get into this and spread all sort nasty bacteria around… and into your house. Most common would be Ecoli,, which can cause diahorrea…but there are worse than this. Google on water borne disease. Moaquitos can spread things as well after flooding.

The water has subsided quite a lot. It’s the 4th Day of the Chinese Lunar Calendar; they say the worst is on the 3rd Day…so hopefully, it is not going to be much worse. If the waters from upriver come down but there is no high tide around here, I don’t think it will be very bad, hopefully!
