Sibu flood not apparent and Christmas trees

snail-flood-sibu

Today the flood is not apparent. Except for snails climbing up my blinds and the dirt, it seems like an ordinary day. However in the low-lying areas, the waters are still there and swirling especially in the inner city. I dread to think of their hardships and discomfort on this day. The business district seems to be drier now.

slippers

I took my family out. However I forgot to change and wore my slippers. I noticed salesgirls, promoters, credit card sales personnel etc all giving me a wide berth hahaha. Image is always important in Sibu

christmas sibu

There were many Christmas trees behind Wisma Sanyan. Benghui was thrilled. He kept asking me the date. He is so afraid his Sunday School Christmas party would pass without his knowing. He is very happy today because I bought him a packet of popcorn.

christmas trees More Christmas trees.

kingwood expansion

You can see the waters of the Rejang River are quite high. In fact it has overflowed the banks. What you see here is the proposed Kingwood Hotel extension.

swan sibu The water is indeed very high.

express boat sibu

In fact this express boat is almost at the same level as the road. A rare phenomenon.

kampung datu sibu

If the water goes any higher, I fear for the safety of the villagers in this kampung.

How’s the water in ur area? Around my place, it’s dark brown. I remember many years ago, it rained heavily on Xmas night and my house was flooded. The water subsided that day itself…but later the dirty, smelly, dark brown water came in (They said it was from the watershed areas - the forests in the surrounding areas), up the split level in the house and up to 2-3 steps of the stairs…and stayed for 3-4 days. When it finally subsided, the stench was unbearable and my house was SO dirty! I was much younger then; just can’t imagine if it were to happen now!!!
