Flood damaged bike and anti burglary measures
Mrs Bengbeng woke me up this morning and told me she needed to start her bike. I asked her why not drive? She looked at me as if I were the world’s biggest idiot and asked me if I knew water existed? My eyes were hardly open and I suddenly realized she couldn’t go by car as certain parts of Sibu were flooded. Unfortunately the bike was damaged by the flood water. We didn’t know as we seldom used it. In the end I arranged alternative means of transport for her.
After yesterday’s intruder scare, I recycled this switch. I hijacked an existing electric line to our wet kitchen. This means if I want it to be on, I need to turn on the wet kitchen light on too. Very wasteful of electricity. It is a temporary solution only.
Also recycled from an old light. I hope it is can withstand the weather. This area is the laundry area and we used to call it our ‘chicken coop. The light will brighten up the back yard.
I told Mrs Bengbeng as we are not rich people, we need not worry. It is just like going to town and being singled out by picket pockets. The odds against it are very high. It won’t happen every day. She was almost hysterical. I told her we have a dog. She is considering installing a burglar alarm which would cost at least Rm2 000 and we have no valuables in the home.
She put up this extra bolt in the bathroom. A thief can enter the master bedroom via the bathroom. I told her not to but she did it anyway.
Anyway no harm done. It will help me sleep and her sleep easier at night. We cannot be held hostage by burglars. It is our home. We ought not to live in fear.
In the meantime I have bought twelve 4 inch down lights from China. It costs me Rm17.00 each and each has a wattage of 18W. This is for the lighting in the living and dining room.
corned beef, sotong ball cabbage soup and ice cream fried
I put up this pic because Benghui insists on it. He was a great help in the kitchen. When the mummy is away, he is very good and helpful. When his mummy is at home, he is lazy as he knows everything will be done for him. I told him if you want to eat, you must help. He seems to be eating non stop all day now. In the past we had to coax him to eat.

That kind of latch! One kick already give way! People do all kinds of things to keep out burglars…locks, iron grills! Gee! Their home is a prison! Can they escape in a fire???
One of my neighbors have alarm installed and still the thief managed to break-in. Now when we hear dogs barking at night, we will be more careful.

Wah, burglars still comes in during flood? You really are creative which can safe money a lot and still manage to update your blog?
Anyway, better precautions than sorry right..
As the saying goes : People fail to plan, but no one plans to fail. It applies to planning for home security also.
it makes me sad that even poor people like me have to take security measures
I think the theft also smart nowadays!
I love Wuching’s suggestion, buy a gun! Or you can consider hiring security guards.
Safety first i suppose.
