Benazir Bhutto killed in attack

A state of uncertainty has gripped Pakistan following the assassination of ex-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Killed in a suicide attack, Benazir struck a colorful figure as she campaigned for what she believed in and across Pakistan. At least 22 people were also killed with her and there were also injuries reported.

Angry supporters of Benazir have taken to the streets to express their anger. President Pervez Musharraf has urged people to remain calm but it remains to be seen if he still has control over the supporters of Benazir who are angry and grieving. Security forces have been placed on a state of “red alert” nationwide.

Eyewitnesses: Ms. Bhutto had stood up through the sunroof of the white Toyota Land Cruiser. She waved at supporters who were cheering her. A “thin man” on a motorcycle, carrying an AK-47 rifle, fired two shots, one into Bhutto’s neck, and she collapsed, falling down into the vehicle. The assailant then detonated an explosive. Bhutto was rushed to Rawalpindi General Hospital where she died at 6:16 p.m. local time (1316 UTC).

Some analysts say this is a sign of the creeping “Talebanisation” of Pakistan. Radical Muslims calling for Islamic law, and fiercely opposed to the US, have become increasingly active in Pakistani politics in recent years.

Suituapui: Resident commentor-

P.S.: Just saw the news when I logged online that Benazir Bhutto had been assasinated. Basically, it is all politics but it stems from the Hindu-Muslim conflict that has plagued the violence-torn country since time immemorial. Hence, everyone should all see the importance to preserving peace and harmony in our own country and practise UNDERSTANDING & TOLERANCE among our brothers and sisters…regardless of race, sex or religion.

Flood damaged bike and anti burglary measures

Mrs Bengbeng woke me up this morning and told me she needed to start her bike. I asked her why not drive? She looked at me as if I were the world’s biggest idiot and asked me if I knew water existed? My eyes were hardly open and I suddenly realized she couldn’t go by car as certain parts of Sibu were flooded. Unfortunately the bike was damaged by the flood water. We didn’t know as we seldom used it. In the end I arranged alternative means of transport for her.

A cry from the heart

I have posted a comment from Ruby. From this long and well written comment, I am very touched indeed by her sincerity. I do apologize if I have offended you in any way. It is in reply to a comment in my blog which I posted.

OuYangkl

Shalom to All,

I am not supporting gay/lesbian church especially our brother Ou Yang is planning to set a church here in Malaysia. It doesn’t matter to me, is between God and him. Only God can judge him personally whether he follow the commandment of God and saving people life (salvation). It is up to him, how much he can influence to the christian people and his teaching too.

If any churches from difference denomination or non-denomination or even the christian bodies attack or pull him down, I believe that bro. Ou Yang is well-prepare for the prosecution as he should understand the discipleship is not easy to carry…it is not doing it for the fame, power or wealth.

If anyone of us, feel that the church is teaching is wrong by using the spirit of discernment and peace in the heart…you can reject it immediately. Many of christian never know how to use this spirit…it is a long way to build it.

Regards,
Pastor Nineveh H S Kok

Ruby’s reply:

There’re gays & lesbians in all churches but live an oppressed life, they’ve to bury their true selves & live like living deads, just because family, friends & society prevent them to be who they truly are. Some will just leave the churches.

And when there’s a gay church, it gives them hope, but you’re destryoing it, leaving them no proper place to go but to underground. Only if people could accept that they’re different, more than 1/3 would surprise you that they’re actually gay/les. Many gays/les still hide their identites even in countries that legalized same sex marriage because there’re still people like you.

I don’t think that you people fight against gay church because you think it’s wrong, you’re just afraid that the truth will be revealed, & that the straights who were fighting against it had surprises, that the people closest to them are gays/les, it just crush their worlds. You prefer them to their lives in a lie for the rest of their lives so that you people can be happy. You’re enjoying your happiness in the expense of others’ sufferings.

We’ve feelings & don’t want to hurt others, likewise we hope you don’t hurt us as well. I came out to them, but was told not to reveal myself to anyone anymore, because what I do will hurt others as we don’t live alone in this world, our lives aren’t just ours alone.

As a kid, I was afraid when I heard the adults said I had special attraction towards my own gender, I must be a weird kid. As a teen & young adult, I live in denial despite some people can see from the way I was. As I became much older, I gathered my courage to tell & at the end was told to continue hiding it.

I came to a painful decision for not doing anything about my life, neither be here nor there, to continue living my life day by day till I die in old age. I constantly have suicidal thoughts, but I can’t do it just like I can’t do anything about my life.

I’m a feminine & I love feminine women, it’s not that I’m after another woman who looks like a man to take the place of a man, I don’t love men. I tried my best, you people thought that we want such a bad life, forcing us to pray, fast, meditate, etc, we followed exactly in the hope we may be transformed, but it doesn’t changed us, because we’re who we truly are, it’s not a choice of lifestyle, why you people can’t understand?

I had tried having relationship with a spiritual man, it just can’t work for me. I cannot understand how the gays/les can hide themselves with a straight relationship, I got a big problem with that. When I 1st had sexual relationship with him, I saw him like he was monster, I felt so horrible inside, I never felt that way in my life, not even I’m being different than others, I felt my entire life being raped. Can you understand such pain that can almost kill you?

I realised I can’t follow you people’s order anymore, on how I should live my life, I don’t want to have a 2nd sexual encounter with men anymore, it’s too horrible, as if I was in hell. I left church, left my religion, being alone all the time, but a happier person because I don’t need to struggle much anymore, I’m going to live my life alone, I won’t hurt those who love me by doing what I want, & I won’t hurt myself by doing what they want.

So, do not object to a gay church. Do you prefer that they end up at dark clubs, or do you prefer them to go to a church? A gay church may not be your ideal, but it’s a best option for the gays/les, your so called lost souls. When society cannot accept transgendered, they ended up working as prostitutes, not because they like it, but because they’ve to survive, & to live in such painful life that even family rejected them. If we can accept them, we’re giving them a better place to live. Why do you want to push them to a dead end?

Now, they don’t beg from you, you never even offered help, they’re independent, trying to help themselves, why can’t you just give them their freedom which are theirs in the beginning? Why do you want to rob them? They let you live your life the way you want it, let them have the same thing. And I don’t think God comes for such righteous people like you, killing all His children by pushing them to the fire.

Of a burglar, fallen guava tree and plaster ceiling with cornice

tree trunk

I don’t know how it happened. Perhaps it is because of termites. Perhaps the ground was too hard but my guava tree toppled down. Before this, I had suspected something wrong as it transformed from a healthy tree to a sickly tree. We had eaten less than twenty fruits from this tree. When it fruited, we would wrap it with newspapers so it would not be ‘disturbed’ by birds or insects. Now it is gone.

Japanese Game Show

I received this from Judy via facebook..

The game is self explanatory. A group of game show contestants are prohibited from laughing. If they laugh they will be punished and if they do it too many times, they will be eliminated. It is funny…hilarious.

Channel funds to Malaysian flood victims

I came across this appeal on behalf of the flood victims of Malaysia. I am posting this appeal by Capt (R) Azhar Lin 0162319750 for victims of the floods

Hi Everyone,

Lets put our shoulders together, then the burden will not be too heavy.

I was one of the volunteers who in late 2006/early 2007 helped in raising and collecting of some food & other essentials in Klang Valley and arranged with some friends & other volunteers to deliver the goods to those in need. In average, we made about 8 trips, each trip about 10 fully loaded 4×4s & lorries. We operated under the flag of the Malaysian Red Crescent with which we were all registered volunteers but we operated on our own finances down to fuel and breakdown costs. Somehow, the highway authorities showed some compassion by not forcing us to pay the toll charges especially at the areas that were flooded.

Now, a few members have completed some ground surveys to look into the situation at hand but we are working to build up the supplies now, all by word of mouth and via smses so far. MRCS is planning some relief supplies deliveries that may involve us again as I have contacted some MRCS officers on the ground to inform them of our readiness to assist.

One collection centre is situated in Wisma WIM, 7, Jln Hj Abang Openg, Taman Tun Dr Ismail. (Contact : Mr Song @ 012 3988907)

As with last year, we’re collecting foodstuff (non-perishable at this point of time) and other goods (baby diapers, clean clothings etc) No cash (Please forward your cash donations to the MRCS, Jalan Ampang)

I will be glad if this message can be freely displayed into other blogs and such. We also welcome corporate sponsors who would like to be present themselves but lack the logistics & planning. We had strong support from Eau Claire mineral water last year, potable water IS an essential commodity in a flooded community, especially for younger children.

Thank you.

Hady Mirza bags Asian idol title

No it wasn’t ndonesia’s Mike Mohede or Jaclyn Victor . It was Singaporean singer Hady Mirza who ogt the coveted title. Winning was decided fully by SMS voting. The other contestants were Phuong Vy (Vietnam), Mau Marcelo (the Philippines) and Abhijeet Sawant (India).

The 28-year-old Singaporean won a fully-paid trip around the world. He performed two songs on Saturday night, his rendition of Taufi k Batisah’s Berserah and U2’s Beautiful Day. I guess his victory was a foregone conclusion when the audience of over 5000 people at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran gave him a standing ovation

His performance of the latter probably sealed his victory as it was greeted by a standing ovation by over 5,000 people at Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran.

The judges — Paul Moss (Malaysia), Siu Black (Vietnam), Ken Lim (Singapore), Anu Malik (India), Indra Lesmana (Indonesia) and Pilita Corrales (Philippines) were unanimous in picking him a sthe winner.

Hady said,

” Looking at how great the performances by the other contestants were, I thought my chances were slim. Maybe I had a little bit of luck on my side, This win is not just for me, but also for the rest of the contestants, who like me, are doing this in the name of our love for music.”

Wesley Methodist Church Sibu/Christmas Musical-Cantata and Benghui’s first service

We were invited by Yan to attend a Cantata “Celebrate the gift”. The speaker is Rev Dr Tie King Tai. He spoke on The Amazing Gift. She said she hoped we would enjoy the choir and music and indeed we did.

Benghui behaved exceptionally well. Well disciplined and could even sing along with some of the carols. I am very proud of him tonight.

choirThe choir

He came home very happy because he has shaken hands with some uncles and aunties and wished some people he likes very much Merry Christmas.

guests of honor flower

He was pleased as punch when Auntie KK gave him this rosette. He immediately showed it to mummy when she opened the door. Mrs Bengbeng said , ”Nice, nice”, then we immediately shifted furniture again. The water is again high in the drains :(

Rev Tie King Tai said this year has been a tough year for Sibu people from the beginning till the end. We started with the fear of the fallout from the gangsterism issue and ended with the floods. Collectively we pray next year will be a better year.
