I discovered this place only a few days ago. I first saw it when I was with wuching but I didn’t realize it was open to the public. I must admit I know little about the history of Sibu town itself other than the first Foochow pioneers arrived in Sibu on board the M.S. Hong Bee about a century ago. We were fortunate enough to be invited to visit a long house at Sungai Assan. We were given a warm welcome including the traditional tuak and miring. When the cock was brought out to be sacrificed, all parties decided to let the cock live. The ceremony was mainly symbolic.
