Educational aids, CDs and Primary three text books

primary education malaysia

Mrs Bengbeng has been very upset because Benghui has been spending too much time on the computer. She has bought a set of specially recommended reading material which Benghui finds boring. All her ranting and scolding just doesn’t seem to move or motivate Benghui at all. He will sit there with the book and look busy and stop thinking.

The Mrs and I had an urgent family discussion. Mrs Bengbeng doesn’t quite agree with my suggestion but finally relented for the sake of ‘harmony in the home’. Starting today, Benghui will have a few hours of specially designated free time to do whatever he wishes as long as he is in no danger.

Benghui was quick to catch the concept. He used the time to explore the CDs that came along with his primary three text books. And he is doing the activities and exercises there by himself. Self access learning I think is the correct technical term. He is so engrossed and obviously enjoying himself.

I think I have become obsolete. Benghui’s generation is leaving dinosaurs like me behind. I wonder if even his school teacher is using the same educational CD aids that come with the text books as diligently as Benghui.

Benghui is a smart kid. Be patience with him, give him reasonable freedom. :)

I think kids nowadays are surrounded by too much techno-electronics from young. :) Not that it’s not a good thing, I think it really encourages great e-thinking when exposed to the right stuff, like your kid’s accompanying multimedia material.

    p/s. Happy New Year! :)

There are a lot of educational CD-roms available e.g. Smart School, teaching subjects like English, Mathematics and so on…and they are fun to play, so that will be killing two birds with one stone. However, u will need to limit the time, otherwise the eyesight will be going…going…gone!!! Personally, I feel that the CDs that come with the textbooks and workbooks or even those produced by the ministry are extremely slow and boring. The commercially-produced ones are more interesting.
